Chapter 20
“What do anda mean she’s your daughter?” Sam pressed disbelievingly, unable to accept what he was hearing.
Michael just calmly stood, as emotionally cold as a statue. His youthful brows slightly lifted stating his slight amusement in the taller Winchester’s reaction towards the sudden paternal confession.
“I mean Kay is my daughter Sam.” he answered coolly.
Dean was lebih cynical. “Wait hold on a damn friggin minute, what you’re telling us is impossible! I don’t believe you.”
“Oh I’m afraid it’s very true Dean.”
“What anda mean like…like Anna? Like, another fallen angel”
Michael disregarded Dean’s skepticism, plainly folding his slender arms over his chest. “No, Kayleigh wasn’t a child of heaven reborn on earth… She was naturally born on this plain; she’s mortal…like you.”
Dean scrutinized the archangel, irritably pinching his temple. It was hard enough grasping the idea that Kay was partially responsible for the outbreak, but learning one of her biological parents was a powerful ancient being wearing his half-brothers meat suit was beyond crazy. It was like the front of a bad joke, the cynical young hunter found himself snickering uncontrollably.
“Okay, so anda expect us to believe that somehow anda went and knocked up some chic, left her,” Dean retorted, “and some odd years later anda grew a pair and decided it was lebih fun playing daddy?”
“Cas is this even possible?” Sam pondered staring at the gentle eyed Angel in the trench coat. “I mean…except for her ability to empath people, Kay’s human.”
“Yah plus the whole you-getting-your-freak-on with an actual person is enough to make me spew my guts all out on this floor.” added Dean ruefully towards Michael, repulsed sejak the fact that some supercharged creep was responsible for Kay Forster’s existence.
Castiel grimaced at both the brothers; then his blue eyes fell solemn. Even he wasn’t ready to accept the truth about the empath girl, though part of him greatly desired what his archangel brother possessed.
“I told anda both before that Kay was an abomination.” he berkata gently. “But…such a union is possible. As long as we’re in possession of a vessel…we can procreate with humans, though such a union is forbidden and punishable sejak annihilation.”
“Great, I feel like I just walked into a messed-up Jerry Springer episode; entitled My Father the Archangel!” Dean slewed sarcastically rubbing his palms down his handsome face.
Sam was hardly able to bungkus, balut his head around this new information about the Angel lore. After battling with and against them for two years it felt as though everything he learned about Bidadari seemed black and white. Never in a million years did he imagine meeting perhaps the only person alive on earth connected with a piece of heaven. Kay Forster had been an unsolved mystery to the Winchesters from the moment she entered their lives and now events were shaping up grittier than expected.
“But if this is true then…how did anda get involved with Kay’s mother in the first place?” Sam asked Michael boldly. “I mean…why?”
Michael gently wavered his eyelashes; scrutinizing the floor he was standing on. For a perpecahan, berpecah saat Sam thought there was a hint of sadness in his expression though it was hard to tell from an emotionless being. It especially felt confusing to see it displayed on Adam’s face though within his irises shone a bright emas gleam circling his ice blue eyes and the confusion dimmed.
“Twenty-four years ago…I was assigned to observe.” Michael confessed solemnly, face distracted in thought and possible memories. “My purpose was to prepare for what was coming…to be ready to fulfill my destiny… At the time I inhabited another vessel…a local mechanic named Caleb Forster…”
“As it turned out Caleb was seeing a young woman, Amy…a woman who claimed she could see the future. I was fascinated sejak her abilities, studied her for over a month, learned about her premonitions through her dreams. I quickly discovered she could see the apocalypse…a moment of battle between Lucifer and myself. And then something started to happen…”
“I began to worry about this woman’s fate, begged her to forsake her visions the moment she confided them to me. It was forbidden for a human to possess such a gift of sight. That was when I realized she wasn’t just seeing the future…she was Penulisan it… Amy was a prophet…I just didn’t know what purpose she served until the night I started to realize my intentions towards her were changing…”
“I began to channel something I never thought possible…I was feeling strongly for Amy in a way I didn’t understand and I knew at the same time she was drawn to me… As a soldier of heaven I was aware the sin against my protocol that I was about to commit…would lead to an abomination of my existence…”
Dean took the opportunity to jump in enthusiastically. “So wait anda hooked up with a prophet? Kay’s mother was a prophet…like Chuck?”
Michael grimaced at the young hunter. “Shall I continue?”
Both brothers shrugged exchanging uncertain gestures allowing the archangel to proceed down memory lane.
“I left Amy eight months earlier…and sejak the time I returned it was too late… The only witnesses to my betrayal were Raphael and Uriel, both to whom were loyal enough to protect my sins sejak risking their own lives… I had shamed my father’s solemn rule “Never fraternize with a mortal”…a sin I swore to keep buried for as long as I lived…and having relations with a prophet was lebih than forbidden it was against protocol of protecting them….”
“I didn’t want Amy to suffer sejak my actions, so I erased her memories of our affair and hid her away with Caleb until after my daughter was born, frequently watching to make sure they remained selamat, peti deposit keselamatan and then after Kay’s twelfth birthday…there was a car accident… Amy and Caleb were killed…but Kay survived miraculously. I suddenly came to the conclusion that someone else knew about my union and my child’s existence…someone I was close to and they wanted to punish me…”
“Even after Amy’s death…I never understood why she was so persistent to ignore future outcomes, the last thing she’d written was a shockingly detailed revelation of the accident and that Kay’s life was in danger from both Heaven and Hell. She foresaw her own fate but in the end…all that mattered to her was the safety of our daughter…”
“My father somehow learnt of my indiscretions with a prophet and ordered I be detained from my duties until further judgment while my brothers hunted for my child. They were unsuccessful in the end…I’d made sure she stayed hidden, even from me, up until this very moment. And now that Kay’s empathic abilities have excelled, they won’t stop…the angels…the demons…to them Kay is a specimen for utter destruction…a beginning and annihilation.”
Sam, Dean and Castiel stared motionless, reverently processing all that they had learned from Michael’s story. But the brothers were beyond their shock as they exchanged looks of uncomfortable realization. For Dean this was a total stumper, he’d never be able to look at Kay the same way again. She wasn’t just a young mechanic suppressing an empathic curse…this girl was literally a child of heaven…the mortal daughter of the Archangel Michael. Even now, his feelings for Kay were conflicted lebih than ever.
“Michael how was Kay’s blood responsible for mutating the croatoan virus?” asked a widely precocious Sam. “Back at the hospital…Pestilence admitted he used her blood to complete the strain… I don’t understand how that’s possible.”
The archangel glared at the tall young hunter and replied hastily. “Angels and Demons have powerful chromosomes in their blood…and the croatoan virus was originally a demonic strain. While Kay is human, her chromosomes are nearly an exact match to mine as my DNA is stronger than Amy’s human DNA.” He paused briefly, face shaded in slight anxiety. “Pestilence must’ve somehow figured out that Kay’s blood wasn’t normal and he used it to mutate the virus.”
“But how could he have known what Kay was to begin with?” Castiel puzzled, relentlessly pacing the room in his long-tailed trench. “Aside from her abilities, there was nothing about this girl that should’ve linked her to you.”
“Sam didn’t anda tell me Snot-boy wasn’t cruising solo?” Dean applied, scrambling for explanations. He wasn’t exactly known for his brains in the family, that role fell to his much taller younger brother. “I’m willing to bet he wasn’t the only son-of-a-bitch running this freak show!”
“He wasn’t…Pestilence berkata he wasn’t working alone.” Sam admitted. “When I was trapped in that room with Sarah…he told me he had lebih than one partner involved in this apocalypse. He berkata that this guy restored his powers and…is targeting me.”
Dean’s eyes bulged. “What do anda mean he’s targeting you? Who is this clown?”
“I don’t know…but I think I might have an idea.” An awful notion had been tormenting Sam since his encounter with one of the Four Horsemen and he feared the truth. “Apparently this guy used demons to stalk Kay and infect her empathic abilities with Rawak suicides so she could feel nothing but pain. That’s why she can’t control the emotions she absorbs into her body.”
“Makes sense, whoever Pestilence was working for, they knew about this girl.” Castiel guessed unhesitant. “They’ve been hunting this girl her whole life, studying her, torturing her with her own ability. They needed Kay to be unstable in order to identify her bloodline.”
“But if the Bidadari want Kay dead…why are the demons after her?’ baffled Sam, pinching his chin with his hand.
“Well she kinda juiced up the apocalypse.” Dean retorted cynically.
“Yah but I keep thinking back to something Pestilence berkata about Kay… I don’t think they needed her just for the sake of mutating a virus… I think that’s what he wanted us to believe…like misdirection.”
“The virus wasn’t the plan.” Michael berkata disturbingly, he’d been weary of being left out of the discussion. Aside from adding a voice to his connection with Kay Forster, he was probably the only one who could help fill in the gaps that still alienated the group. “They needed Kay’s blood to complete the process but that wasn’t their goal…she was their decoy. What we’re dealing with…is built on a much larger scale.”
That’s when Sam had an idea. “Wait, Dean remember when I pulled that file on Kay’s medical history?”
This sudden epiphany instantly gained interest of the overwhelmed young hunter loosening his jaw. “Yah it mentioned records of Kay being hospitalized twice as a kid because the sandman wasn’t dusting her enough. Sam, where are anda going with this?”
“Think about it! The doctors that examined Kay’s abnormal sleeping patterns also had access to her blood work. There were no records of unusual platelets in her blood which doesn’t make sense because she’s the illegitimate child of an archangel.” The group fell silent until the taller Winchester came to his conclusions. “Kay’s parents were killed in that accident around the time her abilities were manifesting, she was the sole survivor. The only way anything could’ve known about Kay’s connection to Michael is if they were angels…or-”
“Demons!” Dean finished vitally, hati, tengah-tengah pounding. “They’ve been tracking this girl her whole life like a bunch of “human” poachers. Son’s-of-bitches were planning on restarting Judgment hari this whole time! But then…” he turned to the archangel suspiciously. “Why did anda spring Sam from the pit? Did anda know all this was gonna happen…the virus…and Kay?”
Michael glared solemnly at Dean. His lack of cooperation was restless. “I asked anda a soalan damn it!” he lashed invading the archangel’s space, gun in hand.
“As I explained to anda before Dean,” confirmed the mono-toned archangel, face hollow. “The virus was only a distraction from what’s to come. The apocalypse anda and Sam thought was finished…was only the tip of the iceberg. The real threat is what’s happening with Kay’s abilities…the undead…the other Bidadari and the demons targeting us all…this is the apocalypse Dean.”
“So anda brought Adam and I back…to help anda fight?” Sam stared at the Angel bewildered.
“No…I only resurrected you.” Michael’s startling confession seared through the room. “I needed anda and your brother to keep the empath safe…there wasn’t enough strength in my power to resurrect Adam but somehow this vessel was sprung from the cage along with my essence attached… During resurrection Adam’s soul and my own were fused together and when I realized this I gave Adam the mission to assist anda and Dean with Kay. He only just found out about my connection to her.”
“But if anda didn’t release Adam from the pit…who did?” asked Sam.
“No, what I’d like to know is who set us up back in Clifton.” Dean scorched at Castiel. “How ‘bout it Cas…did anda sike us out…huh?”
The doe-eyed Angel tilted his head uncertainly, facial expression scrambling for an explanation but before he could open his mouth Dean’s jaket pocket began buzzing. It was his cell phone.
“What do anda mean she’s your daughter?” Sam pressed disbelievingly, unable to accept what he was hearing.
