Chapter 21
Dean slung the shot gun around his shoulders, motioning for Sam to watch over the two Bidadari in case something didn’t smell right. The he grabbed the cell out of his left jaket pocket, Membaca “Unknown Number” on the caller I.D. This couldn’t be good. Instead of over thinking his options, Dean flipped open the phone.
“Hello?”
“Dean, it’s me…Bobby.” replied the laid back but husky voice. “It sure is damn good to hear from anda boy.”
Dean’s face lit up relieved, rubbing his jaw with his palm anxiously. It had been days since the virus broke out of Little Falls, spreading throughout the nation like crazy. In that time frame without a word would’ve made anyone crazy, now all Dean needed to know was the status of his son and ex. At least his good friend was in one piece…from the sound of things.
“Bobby? We’ve been trying to get hold anda since all this crap started!” The elder Winchester’s voice was nearly breaking. “Are anda alright?”
There was a sigh. Dean figured he was in for another Bobby Singer sarcastic quip, either way hearing his voice seemed to push the stressful weight of the apocalypse off his shoulders.
“Well let’s see…I’m still alive and talking to you…and oh yah except for the fact that I just managed to dodge thirty dead sons of bitches on my way out of town, I’m just dandy ya idjit!” Bobby was definitely bitter, his usual gruff self. “What the hell’s going on Dean? If I didn’t know better I’d say we were sittin’ in the middle of Armageddon all over again!”
“Yah well, anda don’t know the half of it.” Dean retorted pacing the room, often stealing glances between Sam and the angels. “You wanna tell me why your number didn’t automatically pop up? What did anda gank some jalang, perempuan jalang and steal their phone?”
“I had limited resources smartass!” Bobby replied wryly. “The cell went dead right when the shit hit the peminat so I couldn’t call to make sure anda boys still needed me to babysit your stupid asses through this hell hole. I managed to pick up this sucker while looting a nearby Radio Shack. Now anda wanna tell me what exactly we’re dealing with here?”
Dean closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose. “It’s kind of a long story Bobby, trust me when I tell anda its pretty messed up.”
“Enlighten me son. I ain’t sittin’ in hell over nothin’ anda know!”
The young hunter stared back at his bewildered, taller brother debating on whether to spill the whole truth, in case demons had taken over their friend. Bobby had been possessed a fair amount of times in the past over the last 5 years he’d known the Winchester brothers. Though he was cautious, Dean couldn’t help wanting to confide everything.
“Sam and I were on a job…helping Cas with this girl Kay who as it turns out is an empath and can only absorbed negative energies like a human vacuum cleaner,” Dean began. “But here’s the catch…this girl also happens to be the Cinta child of our own heavenly douche…Michael.”
“Jeez…and I thought my old man was an ass.” Bobby retorted critically. “What else ya got?”
“Pestilence…son of a jalang, perempuan jalang used the platelets in Kay’s blood to mutate the croatoan virus and bingo….full on zombie action!” Dean muttered clenching his strong jaw, flexing his knuckles. “Oh and I haven’t even gotten to the fun part yet… Michael’s back…and he’s with Adam.”
“Wait a minute, Adam? anda brother Adam’s alive too? Like…he’s possessed?”
“No lebih like the Jekyll/Hyde deal.” Dean clarified cynically, sweeping his fingers up his beat face and through his cropped hair. “Whatever resurrected Adam…sandwiched his soul with along with that two-faced freak. Don’t ask me how ‘cause I’ve got no clue on this end, let’s just say it’s twice the jalang, perempuan jalang that I’ve gotta deal with.”
“So tell me the bad news.” Bobby groaned sarcastically.
“We need to find the chuckle-head responsible for all this and gank him fast before the virus spreads outside the States. See if anda can dig up anything useful on angel/human offspring atau empaths, there might be a pattern somewhere.”
“I’ll do whatever I can without becoming a zombie chew toy.” Bobby vitally stated to the young hunter. “But I ain’t ever heard anything about a union between Bidadari and humans, that one escapes me. Is there anything else ya got for me that might jog something?”
There was a slightly disturbed pause, and then Dean berkata cautiously. “Kay’s mother was a prophet…if that helps. I don’t know; maybe there’s a prophecy we overlooked.”
“You’re just full of surprises ain’t ya? Look I’m headin’ into Cicero, Indiana. If I’m lucky, there’ll be a perpustakaan window I can kick open if I’m not dead before I get there.” He huffed. “Wherever anda boys are, better watch your asses out there.”
“You too.” A thought suddenly struck Dean after listening to the name of the town his friend mentioned. Cicero, Indian was where Lisa and Ben were. Since he couldn’t get a hold of them, why not send Bobby to make sure they were safe? “Hey Bobby…could you…check in on Lisa and Ben while you’re there? I’ve been trying to reach them without any luck… I wanna make sure they’re alright.”
“Count on it!” Bobby offered to his young friend. “Be careful son; don’t need anda gettin’ your stupid keldai killed on me before we ice this thing.”
Dean signed turning off his phone, feeling unprepared for the seterusnya rush of events. Sam appeared to be just as relieved Bobby was alive but now they had to form a plan of action.
“Dean, what exactly are anda hoping Bobby can dig up?” he asked his older brother, who was moving closer to him. “I’m glad he’s okay but I don’t think he should risk getting killed over a lead that might be a dead end. We still don’t have any idea what the demons are planning with Kay…or why the Bidadari obviously want her dead.”
“Bobby’s a big boy Sam; he can take care of himself.” Dean growled impatiently. “Even if it’s a Lost cause, we have to find an answer somewhere. Besides…Lisa and Ben are there…alone where I can’t protect them from all this! And on bahagian, atas of that I’ve got you, that kid, those girls and these two bozos to look after! So I’m really not in the mood to argue about this right now!”
The Bidadari were still keeping their own hidden agendas as far as Dean was concerned and he was going to get the truth out of them one way atau another. It had been awhile since Kay and Sarah were coherent. Dean figured his brother would check on them while he had it out with the forces of heaven.
“I’ll go see how Kay and Sarah are doing.” Sam excused himself out of the room awkwardly, not wanting to push his older brother’s buttons. They were under enough pressure as it is.
“Fine, anda do that while I deal with Heckle and Jeckle over here.” Dean gestured with his tough-guy smirk clapping his hands together, glaring at Michael and Castiel. “Now where were we? Oh yah, one of anda almighty ass-hats set us up back in that little death trap in Clifton. No wait let me guess…” He closed his eyes theatrically, and then opened them pointing his finger at the trench-coated angel. “Cas, anda got something anda wanna tell me?”
“I’m not the one who set anda up Dean.” Castiel confessed in his gentle mono tone, tilting his head. “That’s why I called you…to warn anda and Sam before it was too late.”
“Then what the hell was that crap about not-being-able-to-prevent this, huh? What are anda hiding Cas? I can tell anda right now that lying to me…isn’t a very smart move.” There was crucial warning in the young hunter’s voice, though both Bidadari seemed less intimidated.
“I sensed danger at the house when I went to investigate Kay’s condition. Your brother Adam spotted me and tried to alert anda and Sam until I…prevented him.” The Angel began to explain plainly to a menyeberang, cross young hunter curving his fingers around the trigger of the shotgun. “You could imagine my surprise when I found out Michael was still attached to the vessel.”
Dean glared skeptically. “So anda just…did your sandman mojo crap on Adam to get him out of the way? Is that it Cas?”
Castiel’s face was enraged with a hint of despair as he stormed up in the young hunters face. “I saved his life Dean! If I hadn’t, your brother would’ve been dead! I spared your friend Sarah too as she was not a part of this.”
“You twisted son of a bitch!” Dean pointed the shotgun at his forehead. “Tell me what the hell anda were really doing here Cas! You’ve been playing this secret agent crap since it all started and I want the truth damn it!”
“Yes I agree,” Michael regarded Dean’s violent request, grabbing the trench-coated Angel sejak the kolar and pinning him against the wall. “I think it’s time anda started being truthful with us Castiel. What are the other Bidadari really planning with Kay…why did anda really come here?”
The doe-eyed Angel gritted his teeth, quickly tearing off Michael’s restraining grip. His expression was mixed, too hollow for Dean to decode whatever motive he was formulating. Then he signed irritably. “I’m under the lord’s strict protocol…to destroy Kay if she became a threat… After I left anda and Sam back at the hospital, I was then told about Michael’s connection to Kay…and sejak the time I returned it was too late… Kay’s blood had altered the croatoan virus which is now spreading… From that point on the orders of heaven stated clearly that this girl’s existence posed a danger in assembling another apocalypse…”
“So…you were planning on ganking some innocent girl, all because she has a friggin blood defect!” Dean felt betrayed and worse he was suddenly overcome with fear for the empath’s life. All his emotions were cramming inside of him, taunting him to release…even if it put himself at risk. “What stopped you?”
Castiel lowered his blue eyes in shame, sadness compelled in his velvet voice. “You did…your protective care and faith in this girl caused me to doubt my orders.” Dean carefully pulled his gun away from the angel’s head, sympathy flushing back into his face. “I couldn’t bring myself to kill her…when I looked into her eyes I saw purity in her soul… Even if Pestilence used Kay’s blood to manipulate the virus…she’s still an innocent… It wasn’t until now that I realized this girl’s life wasn’t to be annihilated …she’s a miracle….and that’s something I couldn’t destroy.”
Dean, Michael Castiel had a moment of silence, adjusting to the knowledge that now kept them on the same page. Agendas aside this war was bigger than ending an innocent girl’s life, though it was that fragile existence which hung in the balance. Something was definitely certain and that was Kay Forster’s life was to be protected from heaven and hell, common enemies to the newly formed alliance of the three warriors standing together in the same room.
“Okay now that we’ve got that sorted, who could’ve set Sam and I up?” Dean pondered. “I mean if it wasn’t the other Bidadari then…”
Michael was Lost in thought until his eyes flung wide. A sinking feeling crept into heart, killer instincts eradicated. “We need to get everyone out of here, now!”
Sam and Sarah had been talking excessively amongst themselves for the past few minutes, while they tended to the unconscious empath lying on the bed. For most of the conversation Sarah was pahit about Sam’s reluctance to discuss what had happened between them earlier tonight and his irrational desire to save a fake phone caller from danger. The real danger had been leaving the house in the first place as far as the dark haired woman, with the sparkling rhinestone blue eyes, was concerned.
“Do anda think she’s going to be okay?” Sarah asked peering down at the girl resting unconscious beside her.
Sam pursed his lips, honestly scrambling into his doe-eyed expression as he gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze. “Kay’s gonna be fine. Cas just put her to sleep, she’ll be awake once the effects wear off.”
The young woman nodded at him reassuringly, but now something else was Tangled in her thoughts. Being honest was one thing but trying to have a decent conversation as a potential couple was beyond difficult, even in these circumstances. Sarah refused to let the topic fade as her emotions were piling within her.
“How long are anda gonna avoid the subject Sam?” She asked coldly, sitting on the edge of the bed, brushing the free hairs away from Kay’s sleeping face. “Because as of now I’m so confused as to how I’m supposed to feel about you… I just…I need to know where I stand in all this.”
Sam shook his head, refraining from her eyes. “Sarah what do want me to say?
“I don’t know, say something anything! What happened tonight…changed things between us Sam.”
I know.” He offered squaring his shoulders, swallowing back the guilt lingering in his stomach. Hurting this girl wasn’t an option for him. Ever since she came back into his life, things started to make sense, but in his fear their connection would always be one-sided. “I just…I can’t think about what all this means for us now… I’ve got too much going on with my brother as it is and… Kay… Do anda think it didn’t affect me to see anda again after so many years?”
Sarah adjusted herself seterusnya to the tall young hunter, taking his hand into hers. “Then why do anda keep pushing me away huh? Why are anda constantly putting me at a distance? Even now…when anda ran out there on your little suicide trip I berkata nothing, because I knew anda wouldn’t have listened to me. And that’s what scares me Sam, losing anda scares me to death.”
Sam instantly jolted out of his brooding frame of mind. Was he the cause of so many relationships crumbling in the past? Sarah was the first person in a long time to ever really know him and understand him. She was patient every step of the way and ended up with a broken hati, tengah-tengah because of him. Sharing that single moment of passion with the woman he cared for, made Sam Winchester realize that he didn’t want to exclude Sarah from his future.
The life of a hunter was a short life sentence and a long lived curse. There were consequences when getting involved with a civilian, people always ended up hurt, broken atau dead… Sam didn’t want Sarah to have to choose between a normal life and living a life of danger to be with him…even if they were in the middle of an apocalypse.
“I’m sorry…for hurting anda like this.” Sam berkata gravely, putting his arm affectionately over her tiny shoulders. “I know none of this has been easy for anda either… It’s exactly why I didn’t want to get involved with you… Sarah I don’t want to cause anda any pain.”
Sarah stared at him appallingly. “I’m a big girl in case anda haven’t noticed, I can take my lumps and anda never forced me into anything.” She curled up closer to his strong shoulder, pressing her cheek against his arm. “Sam I meant what I berkata when I told anda I was willing to be with anda through this…it’s just that anda refuse to let me all the way in. anda close up before I can even guess what’s on your mind.”
“Maybe…I could work on that.” Sam offered gently Ciuman the bahagian, atas of her head. The scent of Bunga swept into his flared sinuses. “We could maybe…take things a little slower… Sarah I know my head’s been a mess these past three years…but the one thing I’m sure about is you… I want to protect you… I want anda to be a part of my life.”
A consoling smile poured on Sarah’s pursed lips. She immediately embraced him, throwing her arms around his neck. Releasing her grip, Sam smiled back at her as they touched foreheads. His warm breath was like sweet mints.
“I’m already a part of your life, anda goof.” She chuckled, playfully shuffling his shaggy hair with her hand. “You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
“Is that a promise?” Sam slurred cleverly, his grin widening. Gentle brown eyes absorbed in hers. Without warning he pressed his lips on Sarah’s mouth, Ciuman her lightly.
“You might want to continue your affectionate session at a lebih appropriate hour!” Castiel suddenly interrupted the young pair as he stormed towards Kay. Sam and Sarah disengaged themselves.
“Whoa hey, Cas what’s going on?” Sam exclaimed, panic thickening in his voice. “What are anda doing?”
“Enochian sigil, it’s the only way to protect her from Bidadari and demon’s radar. Now hurry and get your friend out of here.” The trench-coated Angel carefully pressed his palms on the empath girl’s chest; engraving the spell on her ribs. A rush of astounding adrenaline caused the girl to rise up screaming in pain, hati, tengah-tengah beating faster than a drum. “It’s alright Kay, I’ve just encrypted your ribs with a protection ceil. This way you’ll be safe.”
Kay clutched the front of her shirt, chest heaving, and her dark hair mangled. Her breathing increased heavily, worrying Sarah if she was about to suffer another attack. “What’s happening? Where’s Dean?”
“Don’t worry about him; we need to get anda out of here quickly.” Gently, Castiel gathered the young woman into his arms carrying her out the room after Sam and Sarah. When he reunited with Dean and Michael, he carefully handed the archangel the frightened girl. “I’ll stay behind with the Winchesters. The last thing we need is the other Bidadari following Kay’s trail. Don’t worry; we’ll find anda when it’s safe.”
Michael gave Castiel a steady look as though he understood what lives were at stake. Neither was big on trusting each other but in a war sometimes anda had to know when to pick your battles and your enemies. Kay on the other hand was reluctant to go anywhere, especially far from the young hunter.
“No wait, Dean!” the empath girl cried out to the young hunter, extending her arms to him like a scared child. “Wait, please don’t leave me!”
“Kay it’s alright.” He assured her, taking hold of her hand. “I’m gonna be right behind anda okay.”
She put her hand on bahagian, atas of his, desperate to keep him from disappearing.
Dean, absorbed sejak Kay’s innocent moist, brown eyes, couldn’t bring himself to lie to her. Being an empath, she probably knew the truth just sejak the uneasy rush of emotions he was experiencing. His green eyes were drifting…impaled sejak her fear. “I promise.”
Kay’s expression was somber, worried and conflicted. Before she could prevent him, the young hunter hurried down the stairs after Sam and Sarah, armed with his shotgun. Michael protectively held Kay in his arms, exchanging glances between Deans’s strongly built figure disappearing out the front door and the empath girl’s stale gaze. Something about their intense connection worried him deeply.
As Sam and Sarah began unloading the boxes of Makanan and supplies back into the impala, they were immediately ambushed sejak a collision of hungry moans. Lurking in the darkness, the tall young hunter could barely make out the lanky figures creeping slowly and steadily, almost as if they were a horde of drunken assailants shambling towards them. This wasn’t good, not while they were alone and with limited bullets in Sam’s revolver.
Dean defensively aimed his gun, firing lethal headshots through the shadowy cloak. Some figures went down; others kept shambling eagerly, closer and closer, their eerie groans of hunger enough to send chills up a spine. As the unstable hunter in the leather jaket reloaded to api, kebakaran another shot, a familiar foreign voice broke through into his conscious.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” laughed the fiendishly, English-accented tone. “It’s dark and someone could get hurt out here.”
“Who the hell are you?” Dean snarled, guarding his perimeter seterusnya to the now armed Sam and Sarah. “Show your face anda son of a jalang, perempuan jalang before I take your head off!”
“Temper, temper Dean, that’s bound to get anda in trouble.” he mocked as the shadows drew away to reveal a sinister face the Winchester brothers least expected to run into. Standing there in his signature black coat, short frame and car-sale’s man wit was a demon that could only be described as evil with charm. “Besides…I could think of no better night for a reunion between the three of us, wouldn’t anda agree?”
Sam and Dean froze, their attention torn between the closing gap of an undead horde and their old nemeses who’d until now been somewhat of a strange ally in the fight against Michael and Lucifer. Tension was brewing but nothing could spare the elder Winchester the instinct to shoot first and soalan later. He never trusted a demon, not Ruby and he certainly wasn’t going to trust a demon who tried to steal Bobby’s soul twice.
Dean’s voice was thick and harsh. “Crowley.”
The demon smiled approvingly at the two hunters paired protectively against the dark haired young woman. “Hello gents.” He berkata cunning but casually approaching them. “Miss me?”
Chapter 21
Dean slung the shot gun around his shoulders, motioning for Sam to watch over the two Bidadari in case something didn’t smell right.
“Miss me?”
