Should this teacher be fired...
An alumni of my high school who graduated last tahun committed suicide last Sunday, and it's been a very sensitive time for the last few days. I have a Jewish English teacher who's been teaching for decades and has tenure. Today in the class she had before mine, she berkata that the boy would not go to Heaven for what he did. This upset the whole class and they went to the guidance office, some in tears and others angry. The teacher was asked to leave and (though we don't know yet), was likely suspended.
In the Jewish (and some other) faiths, anyone who commits suicide goes to Hell. Freedom of speech gives her the right to speak her opinion. What also isn't being taken into account is the reasons behind why she berkata it, which we may never know.
My Facebook news feed is in the process of blowing up with posts about how disgusting, insensitive, and disgraceful her actions were. People don't want her to be allowed to return to school. Some are peaceful, but some are not. All are defending the honor of the deceased. Someone even started an Event to go to the administration and calmly address what happened. Someone wrote a message to the Department of Education and local news sites.
At first I was with everyone else 100%. After rethinking my papar on this, I found that I am not so sure. I can't really say that it was wrong for her to say that. I just think she shouldn't have berkata anything, and personal beliefs were wrongly mixed with work. The teacher has already gotten punished, and likely suspended. Because of all the talk surrounding the issue, and complaints from students, parents, and possibly other teachers, she may be reviewed sejak the school board. She has been accused of wrongful behavior before, and a lot of people hate her as a teacher in general. With this, she could likely be fired. She's 60 and would lose her job and retirement benefits. I don't think that she deserves that over this incident. People are upset and when they are upset, they also become a
