Alchemistlover i cant quite explain it it's really just a derogatory term used to describe girls that are like the "perfect dainty housewives" to a man and only to a man pretty much. Ever seen Twilight? Bella is the definition of that. Orihime is way better then her though without a doubt at least she has a personality and can do something!!

LidiaIsabel The truth is that I dislike Orihime, but I have to admit your article is such a masterpiece! I take my hat off to you, yemi_hikari :) You love her the way she is and don't go there trying to change her to the eyes of the other people. I think that makes you an admirable fan. The only thing I disagree is the comparison between her and Momo/Yuzu, I happen to love the latter two just as much as I dislike Orihime, so I don't think they are on the same range. My point is, Momo's skills put her at Lieutenant level and she's known for her powerful kido...Yuzu, on the other hand, is self-assured despite she's caring and sweet. I mean, just because they are kind as Orihime, they are not weak or alike her.

unohana @LidiaIsabel yuzu and momo have a lot in common with orihime but for some reason you dislike orihime. Momo raise her sword againist her friend toshiro because she was getting brain washed by aizen and orihime got brain washed too but she didnt attack ichigo insead she cried when she heard ichigo cry. Yuzu and orihime have stuff in common too. They both cry a lot and both are very caring but yuzu cant fight unlike orihime who you always call "weak and useless" now tell me, compare yuzu and orihime why isnt yuzu weak and useless. LidiaIsabel I just wanted to point out that my reasons to dislike Orihime are not "because she's kind/caring/sweet". That's because I love Momo/Yuzu who also are kind/caring/sweet, so I was explaining why Orihime is NOT like them. Yuzu is not meant to fight or whatever (she's not Ciel Phantomhive), she's an innocent, normal, japanese little girl, even the least spiritual aware of the Kurosaki family. Despite her age, her lack of powers and that she's not intended to fight, she's mentally strong and determined. Opposite to Orihime. Also you're not getting the point, because Yuzu is not getting in the way when it comes to the fights, again, unlike Orihime. About Momo, Orihime isn't at least half as skilled as Momo. What she did for Aizen was because she strongly believed in him, so that means she's very loyal. But I'm not getting into that.

LidiaIsabel Rukia told her that in order to make her realize that she could be helpful IF she got resolve, she was NOT saying that Orihime did HAVE resolve. You get that? Rukia was trying to say Orihime could change that thing if she wanted to. She never said Orihime did have resolve. Analyze Rukia's quotes better, like we BIG Rukia fans always do.

yemi_hikari @ Alchemistlover – Chances are the only experience you've had with the term Mary Sue is where it has been used as a derogatory term. It actually doesn't mean “the dainty prefect housewife type” because the main character of Fruit Basket fits into that type and she isn't a Mary Sue while in fact Bella Swan is one. Believe me when I say, most of the people who use it in a derogatory fashion don't know what the term actually means, let alone how it originated. @ Unohana – The term Mary Sue originated in the Star Trek fandom and it is the name of the OC someone created in a parody work mocking the original character created for fanzines. It came to be used as a term to describe characters who just aren't believable for some reason. Most people think of these as the perfect character who is liked by everyone, but you can have a very perfect character who has fatal flaws who in fact isn't a Mary Sue and you can have someone who isn't a perfect character who isn't liked by everyone who in fact is a Mary Sue. There are also different levels of Mary Sues and it is a starting place for most young writers and some writers actually write them for the fun of it. Bella Swan gets labeled as a Mary Sue as she and the writer “claims” that she is plain and yet she has every guy falling for her to the point that after a month being the new girl most of the guys are still interested in her despite the fact she is supposed to be plain. She's also clumsy when it is convenient to her and she finds herself not being clumsy when a clumsy person normally should be clumsy. The character from Fruit Basket who has a reason to be noticed other then being the new girl or being super pretty. She's also clumsy all the times except for what she excels at and enjoys, which is normal for a clumsy person and her clumsiness annoys the canon characters rather then endures her with them, which is the only reason Bella is clumsy in the series. Orihime isn't a Mary Sue because she has some major fatal flaws. @ Lidialsabel – I'm going to say this despite the fact I like Yuzu and Momo. Yuzu is weak because she can't see spirits and is unable to defend herself. The fact Momo is a fukutaicho does not prove that she is fukutaicho material. Look at the fact Marechiyo is in a fukutaicho position despite the fact the only reason he is there is for Soifon to kick around. Aizen picked her because he found her useful, not necessarily because she had the ability to fill the position. Even if Momo is shown fighting well in the current arc, that is no proof that she was a strong character back when she was Aizen's fukutaicho, it only means she is a strong character now. Her still being a fukutaicho also isn't proof that she has grown because Shinji may have not replaced her through some kindness in his heart or because he hasn't found a fukutaicho he prefers and until he can find the right one he's willing to work with her. Thus comparing the three of them together is not wrong, particularly when all three get hate from people for being “weak”. Or at least it is an excuse people throw around as to why they hate them. I'm also going to agree with Unohana. I am a fan of both Rukia and Orhime and I am a fan of Ichigo being paired with both, though I favor Rukia over Orihime in both regaurds. Rukia never told Orihime that she was in the way, that was Urahara. Rukia was actually very angry that Orihime was told this and the quote you're referring to comes after she finds out Orihime was told she was in the way by Urahara she was in the way. She said it not because she felt Orihime was getting in the way but because Orihime actually believed she would get in the way because she wasn't as strong as everyone else. The advice also came from Rukia's own personal experience where her own resolve faltered and she felt like she was in the way. Actually, I am not sure where the quote came into the discussion as there seems to be a part missing now. But still, the point is Rukia isn't one of the people who felt Orihime would be in the way. P.S. The conversation did get a little derailed, though I am not sure how one comment led into another.

FYI, Bella DOES have a personality and she CAN do something, in fact, she can do lots of things. I'm sure everyone who watched Breaking Dawn Part 2 will agree with me, GOD! Bella can go as badass as she wants! Bella fought along with Edward and defeated Aro (the main villain) together. In fact, it was Bella the one who tore Aro's head off. C'mon! Can any of you imagine Orihime tearing the head off of someone? Or can you even imagine JUST her fighting along with Ichigo to defeat the main villain? Bella's main ability as a vampire is to protect, same as Orihime, the only difference is that Bella DOES know how to use her shield and it's really really really powerful. unohana, you say Orihime is better than Bella? Please, watch Twilight and don't talk if you don't know. Another thing, Orihime isn't a Mary Sue. A Mary Sue is like an alter ego of the author. Please guys, answer this to me: Can you really think that Orihime is an alter ego of Sensei? Make some sense! Also, the Mary Sue's are characters that tend to be so important that they get ALL the attention of the series and they change drastically the story's development. I don't see Orihime getting all the attention and even less changing the story's development, when in the only saga that people hardly speaks of her is in the Hueco Mundo one and even at the end we get to know that Aizen's true objective wasn't Orihime's powers.. Also! The Mary Sue possesses a power that is really admired and obviously SUPERIOR to the other character's ones. Please...Are Orihime's powers SUPERIOR to the other's ones? I know that there are quite a few things that she has in common with some Mary Sue's, such as been hated, being an adolescent, having a crush on the main character, having an exotic hair, having a tragic past... but those are weak arguments compared to the really imponent ones.

Jukebox_Hero Orihime's dorkiness might've been endearing at first but now it's an eyesore. She is weak and imo not very intelligent. She is too undeveloped to be in the main cast. But then again, so is Chad. Kubo spends too much time on Ichigo and needs to develop other character instead of introducing new ones.

I prefer Orihime over Bella simply because Bella is indeed a Mary Sue and characters like Orihime makes me wonder what could have been done with a character like Bella in the right writer's hands. @ blankpanther666 – Glad you liked. And yeah... it is all right to hate a character, but insulting them constantly is bad. @ Jukebox_Hero – Orihime being naïve isn't the same thing as saying she isn't intelligent. This is a girl who managed to make it into the top three for her grade level, so there has to be something there. Her mind just happens to be better applied to studying.
