As much as i love ichigo, renji is just a bad ass! hell I'll follow him if he became captain!

Ichigo wouldn't be able to become a Captain... For a start, he is a Substitute Shinigami, plus he is also a human. Anyway, he doesn't have the experience to be a Captain - all Captains have had huge amounts of training, with Kido, zanjutsu, hakuda, kendo-training, Shikai training and Bankai training. All of the Captains, besides Toshiro, have mastered their Bankai - Ichigo hasn't. Also, Ichigo found himself getting beaten up all the time, in Hueco Mundo and the Captains had to save him, twice.

Renji, while he doesn't have enough experience now, he would make a great Captain after his training had been completed. That is probably why he wasn't made a Captain, because he learned his Bankai in too short a time and hasn't mastered it yet.

Personally, I think Ikkaku would make the best Captain, though we know that won't happen, unless Kenpachi dies, which probably won't happen either.

I think there's little doubt as to the most reasonable answer here. Renji's been a part of the structure of Soul Society for a great deal of his life. He understands how things work, understands the hierarchy, and is capable of leadership as a vice captain. It's not too much of a leap to say that he can become captain. He has bankai, a strong martial background, some experience with kido (even if it's minimally effective), but most importantly, he's been through the Academy.

What does Ichigo have going for him? Besides raw strength and the fact that he achieved bankai, practically nothing. He has limited experience in Soul Society, and that only from the outside looking in. He has no experience with kido at all, has never attended a day at the academy, has no martial experience whatsoever, and his experience as a leader is minimal at best. The fact that he isn't dead yet should be a deterrent as well, and for those who say "well, he could just become a captain after his death," we really don't know what happens when a person dies and goes to Soul Society. Hell, from what we can tell, they're lucky to retain any memories, let alone powers, from their time alive.

Out of these choices, Renji big time! Other wise the one who's really best for captain position (If it happened) iMO is Ashido Kano hands down!

ok in ichigo's defense they said him getting bankai was impossible and all this talk about him going to the academy and having no kido experience is moot. Think about it, Kenpachi didn't go to the academy and i have yet seen him use kido. like ichigo all he has is raw power he doesn't even have bankai! and yet he is a captain. I think we can all agree that ichigo is a speical case, so it wouldn't surprise me if they found a way to make him captain...ijs

Ichigo would be AMAZING AS A CAPTAIN!!! He might even be future HEAD CAPTAIN!!!

I think there are key differences between Kenpachi and Ichigo that make him far less possible, like the fact that Kenpachi killed the former captain, without which he likely never would have become captain, something Ichigo would never do. But this question isn't about likelihood. It's about effectiveness. The best we can say about Ichigo is that he has a lot of natural talent, but that doesn't substitute well for experience in a martial society, which Renji has in droves.

Ichigo-kun would make a great captain overtime if he trained more and more and continue working at his pace and he has a chance to be a very good captain well I think so anyway.

IF Ichigo was in a position where he was able to become captain, I think he'd be better than Renji, just for sheer power. Neither would make a good captain at their current state. However, as time progresses Renji will most likely surpass Ichigo in strength, I mean he IS still just a human and we don't even know if he still has Hollow powers. I can see Renji eventually becoming a captain, if something happens.

Ichigo actually has the power of a Captain, even with his Bankai, Renji is just overrated and full of himself, he doesn't even deserve to be a Lieutenant, Ikkaku, now he is worthy of being a Captain or at least better than a 3rd seat.
