Series and height mostly. I would love to do it by colour though. I always think that looks so cool! haha

I have series together, my favorites are on a shelf where I can reach them easily, I have certain genres together as well and the rest are in random places.

by the name of the author!!!

I don't have any particular way of organizing them, I do keep series together, and I do have my favorite series first, but otherwise they are just on my shelves.

depends which bookshelf you are looking at, one is set up in order of the series by favourite author as well. then the other one well like housegrl32 said it looks like a hurricane hit...lol

My bookshelf is organized by the name of the author, but it used to be by genre.

On my first, second and fourth shelves, I have series. On my third shelf, I have stand-alone books arranged by author, and on the bottom shelf, I have books that I read in elementary school and could care less about now (Nancy Drew, The Black Stallion, American Girl)

All of the above (no, I'm not kidding). :)

i put my favourite books in the most accesible places

i have two book shelves. first one...

bottom shelf: magazines, no particular way i have them organized
second to bottom shelf: manga. organized by favorites
third to bottom shelf: more manga, and my calvin & hobbes comics
third to the top shelf: archie comics, from my childhood. also some old quiz books, craft books, and advice books
second to top shelf: graphic novels, no particular order
top shelf: big peanuts comics collection books, and all my baby sitter club books, also from my childhood. they're in alphabetical order.

my next shelf is where my ACTUAL books go.

bottom shelf: big, fat non-fiction, no order.
second to bottom shelf: paper back and hard cover mystery, horror, and realistic fiction.
third to bottom shelf: half paperback and hard cover fiction and realistic fiction. other half is a basket filled with odds and ends.
third to top shelf: half paperback and hard cover realistic fiction, and half my second-to-favorite hard cover series: underland chronicles & magic or madness trilogy.
second to top shelf: all-time favorite series in hard cover! twilight saga and harry potter series.
top shelf: paperback fiction, in order of author's name.

the bottom shelfs have like my series of books together like harry potter and twilight and so on.

Well I have five bookshelves in my room. One of them is books I have read recently and I chuck them on the shelf when I'm done, one is really trashy books my sister reads, one is box sets (e.g. Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter) one is non-fiction and one is just everything else. This is mainly home of my favourite books. On the bottom shelf is the classics, and then everything else is just sorta random. And there are about five hundred other books just lying about on the floor.
I once tried to colour co-ordinate it but it got mixed up within a few weeks.

By series. I like to have them in order.

However, my classics bookcase is organized by author and then publication date. Yes, I am OCD. My second one is by series (where most of my series collection is, obviously). My third by genre...kind of.

I oganize my books by; soft cover, hard cover, if I've read them yet or not, and series.

I do it by author's last name...

I have a system. I can't exactly explain it, but there's a flow, and I can tell when something's out of place. Same for DVDs.
