Mistletoe, in older times, was believed to have protective properties and was hung to ward off evil spirits. Celts believed that mistletoe, a parasitic plant that grows on trees, had special powers that could heal diseases, make poisons harmless, protect against evil spells and bring fertility to childless women. For many years, Christian places of worship did not allow it inside because of its pagan associations. But nowadays it is mostly used as an excuse to steal a kiss.

The origin of our tradition of Ciuman under the mistletoe is Lost in the mists of antiquity. Some say it probably stemmed...

In Greece when we talk about the "holidays" we are referring to the holiday period of Christmas, New tahun and Epiphany.
Traditionallythe Krismas holiday period lasts 12 days in Greece. There are many customs associated with the "twelve hari of Christmas," some very old and others relatively recent, like the decorated pokok and the turkey on the Christmas-day table.
Historically,in 354 A.D. it was arranged for the birth of Christ to be celebrated on December 25, the same hari that they celebrated the birth of the ancient god Mithra, known as the "invincible sun god" and god of all solar deities...

 Merry Krismas Fanpopping Friends
Merry Christmas Fanpopping Friends
'Tis the season to be jolly!
I have had to remind myself of this fact constantly in the past week for I have had probably the most stressful week of 2008. All I wanted was to be in readiness and organized for my favourite time of tahun but things do not always go as planned.
I decide to do some utama renovations and paint my house back in September, the house did not really need a revamping but I was bored and thought it was time for a change. Little did I imagine that only a few days before Krismas the house would still be looking like a hurricane had swept through it.
I decided to get rid of...

I wrote this short song, based upon "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". It has been effectively retitled "Santa Claus is bringing anda down".
You're going to shout
You're going to cry
You're going to pout, and I'm telling anda why
Sant Claus is bringing anda down!
He knows when anda are knocked out
He knows when you're in pain
He knows when to punch atau not
And his wallops will drive anda insane, woah!
Sant Claus is bring anda down!
Yeah, Santa Claus is bring anda down!
Yeah, Santa Claus is bringing anda DOWN!

I wrote this other, slightly longer song, based upon "Frosty the Snowman" and effectively retitled "Frosty...

Santa Kitty,
I’ve really been an awfully good cat,
And that
Is not an easy thing for me,
Santa Kitty,
So scurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa Kitty,
A ten-pound bag of cat food, too,
From you.
I’ve been an Angel all year,
Santa Kitty,
So scurry down the chimney tonight.

Think of all
The Makanan I’ve missed.
Think of all the items on
My people’s grocery list.
They really have been
Mean to me.
It takes a lot of food
To feed a cat like me!

Santa Kitty,
Slip a susu bowl under the tree
For me.
I’ll stay up for you, dear
Santa Kitty,
So scurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa Kitty,
I need something to chase ’round...

Dear Santa, here's my Krismas list.
I hope you'll bring it all.
I've only asked for gifts my parents
can't find at the mall.

I'd like to have a UFO,
with aliens inside,
and maybe a Tyrannosaurus Rex
that I could ride.

A ninety-nine foot robot
is a present I could use.
I'll also need a time machine,
and rocket-powered shoes.

Please bring a gentle genie
who will grant my every wish,
and don't forget a wizard's wand,
and, yes, a talking fish.

Of course, I'll need a unicorn,
and won't anda please provide
a dragon, and a castle
in the English countryside.

Of course, the weight of all these things
might cause your sleigh to crash.
If that's the case, dear Santa,
please feel free to just bring cash.

Krismas is a wonderful time of the year, all the presents, decorations, etc. Remember, though, Krismas can also be hectic and stressful. Here's just a few tips on how to survive the Krismas season.
1. Telling your mother that she has enough ornaments only gives her an excuse to buy more.
2. If anda are dragged to a neighbor's house for a Krismas party, don't drink the minuman telur kopyok if anda plan to stay sober. Don't be like my uncle. That "spicy, different taste" is called rum.
3. If your grandmother is cooking Krismas dinner, and she has a terrible memory, don't count on her to take out the roast...

I got this from the H & H Nursery newletter.

Fresh holiday greens such as wreaths and garlands have a definite life span, but with the following tips anda can keep them looking good so anda can enjoy their wonderful scent and beauty throughout the holiday season.

If anda aren't hanging atau mounting your greens right away, lay them outside on the ground (best side up) in a cool shady location until anda are ready to use them. Try to avoid getting the greenery wet.

Sunlight, heat and wind are the worst enemies for holiday greenery, so keep that in mind when hanging them up. Outdoors, wreaths will...

Epiphany in Greece is known as Theofania atau Fota. The first sanctification of the Epiphany (The Enlightenment) takes place in church on the eve of the holiday. Afterwards, the priest goes from house to house holding a menyeberang, cross and a basil branch. As he walks through each house, he uses the basil to sprinkle (bless) all the areas of the home.

An old custom in Crete , which is almost forgotten today, was the preparation of the fotokoliva (boiled wheat with peas) on the eve of Epiphany. The fotokoliva was eaten sejak the people, but they also fed it to their livestock, which was believed to insure good...

Is the word "Xmas" a result of the commercialization of Christmas?
Is the word "Xmas" a result of the commercialization of Christmas?
Every holiday season, newspapers, malls and Televisyen commercials urge anda to take advantage of "Xmas sales and specials." The word "Xmas" is easier to use in advertisements, and as a result, it's become associated with the commercialization of Christmas. But some Christians take offense to
the word "Xmas" and have called for the abolishment of this truncated version of the word "Christmas." So why is it so controversial, and where did it originate?

For some, Xmas is a dreaded four-letter word that reemerges every holiday season. The phrase is literally and symbolically distasteful, according...

Vasilopita is the Greek New Year's cake. Vasilopita is associated with Saint Basil's hari on January 1 in Greece.

On New Year's hari families cut the Vasilopita to bless the house and bring good luck for the new year.

For all the people who want a happy artikel about Christmas, I'm sorry to let anda down, and maybe I'm a little pessimistic but now I'm getting older this is how I think about Christmas:

Five years lalu (I was nine) I was sitting in my aunts car on Krismas Eve, and we were talking about a tv tunjuk in Holland called 'all anda need is love'
I don't know if anda know, atau have the tunjuk in America but the tv tunjuk is about people who get unexpected visits from people that they love, and then, for one night, they can forget all their problems and enjoy Chrismas Eve together. I thought that it was a silly...
