Chapter Three: First hari as a CSI
Stella walked into the lab and spotted Danny sitting at a microscope. She walked over to him and put her arm around his neck.
“Working hard Messer?”
“Oh Stella hei how’d it go with Mac?” Danny berkata getting up and giving Stella a hug.
“It went well he asked me about Louie and I gave him a brief history lesson of our family. He seems like a really great guy I think I’m going to enjoy working for him.”
“Yeah Mac’s a good man. He’s a great boss and friend he’ll go to bat for anda no matter what. So let me give anda a tour of the lab and introduce anda to some of the staff.”
Meanwhile back in Mac’s office he was sitting Membaca Stella’s employee file. He didn’t know what it was about his newest employee but he was completely intrigued and interested in her. Not to mention he thought she was the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on. He skimmed through the pages and couldn’t help but admire how strong she was. She had been through so much in her short life and still kept going not giving in to the smallest set back. When he looked in her eyes he saw strength and determination but also saw pain and torment, something he definitely related too. He wanted to know everything about Stella Bonasera and couldn’t wait until he got to work a case with her.
“Okay so this is Dr. Sheldon Hawkes he used to be the Chief Medical Examiner here at the lab but became a CSI back in 2005. He’s a valued member of the team and a genius at that. He’ll help with whatever anda need and is always willing to lend a hand. Doc this is Stella Bonasera the newest member to our team. Mac just hired her today.”
Hawkes extended his hand and shook Stella’s welcoming her to the lab.
“It’s nice to meet anda Miss Bonasera. Danny has told us all about anda and how passionate anda are about putting bad people behind bars. It’s nice to have anda on the team hope anda enjoy your first day.”
“It’s nice to meet anda too Doctor but please call me Stella. It will be nice getting to work with you.” Stella berkata as she shook Hawkes’ hand.
“Alright Stella I’ll introduce anda to who anda will be working with today although anda have already met one of them.”
“Ahh you’re girlfriend Lindsay. Mac mentioned I would be working with her. I’m glad I’ll recognize someone around here.”
Danny and Stella walked over to the DNA part of the lab where Lindsay was checking for any hits on a hair sample found at the crime scene.
“Hey Linds. Look who’s here.”
“Stella, hei welcome to the lab how have anda been?”
Lindsay got up and gave Stella a hug.
“I’ve been good Lindsay, glad to finally get to work. So looks like we’ll be working together on my first case. This should be fun.”
“Yeah you, Adam, and I will be processing evidence found at a crime scene yesterday. So far no suspects but the cause of death to our vic was blunt forced trauma to the head. He also sustained other injuries but the blow to the head was the fatal blow. The crime took place on magnolia and 62nd outside of an old run down apartment building. The vic is twenty years old and was a sophomore at Chelsea University. Detective Flack is tracking down his Friends and questioning them about there whereabouts at time of death and if they know of anyone who would want to harm our vic. Oh here comes Adam right now. My hair sample didn’t get any hits in CODIS so I’m on to the seterusnya piece of evidence. Danny will introduce anda to Adam and I’ll meet up with anda two in a few minutes. Welcome to the lab Stella.”
“Thanks Lindsay. I’ll see anda in a few minutes.”
Danny and Stella walked over to Adam and Danny introduced them to each other.
“Hey Adam this is Stella our new CSI, she’s going to be working with anda and Lindsay on the Walker case alright.”
“Nice to meet anda Stella how is your first hari going?”
“It’s nice to meet anda as well Adam and it’s going good I met Mac this morning and a few other employees, now I’m just anxious to get started working.”
“Right. Well our vics clothes are over here on the meja, jadual I was just about to start examining them but I guess I can let anda do that while I process his cell phone and I Pod if anda don’t mind?”
“Sounds good I’ll get started.”
“Okay let me know if anda need to know where anything is atau if anda need help. Oh and welcome to the lab.”
“Thanks Adam. Well Stella I’m going to go and meet up with Mac on our case have fun and if anda need anything give me a call.”
“Okay Danny I will. Thanks for menunjukkan me around and introducing me to everyone. Talk to anda later.”
“Alright see anda later.”
Stella grabbed the evidence bag and emptied the clothes onto the table, then started looking them over with a magnifying glass. Danny went to Mac’s office to see what his orders were for their case.
“Hey boss well Stella’s all settled in she’s going to be a great edition to the team. Thanks for taking my Nasihat and hiring her she won’t let anda down.”
“I’m sure she won’t Danny she told me about her marriage to your brother and that they have a daughter. Why didn’t anda ever mention her?”
“Stella asked me not too in case one of Louie’s enemies ever got in trouble she didn’t want them to know about Alex and come after her. Sorry boss I would have told anda but I promised Stella I wouldn’t.”
“It’s okay, I understand. How is she holding up? She was obviously very much in Cinta with your brother how has she been since he died?”
“She’s alright, I mean the first tahun was really hard for her but she’s one of the strongest people I know. After Louie died she decided to become a cop and I kind of got her interested in forensics. She went to college and got her bachelor’s degree in forensic science and also got an associate’s degree in psychology. Not only is she tough and beautiful but she’s extremely smart too. That’s what Louie loved the most about her.”
“Danny I have to ask and don’t take this the wrong way I’m just a little concerned, are anda going to have any problems working with her? She is a very attractive woman and many of the suspects we soalan might try to make moves on her. I need to know that that temper of yours won’t get in the way of any investigations. I understand that since your brother died anda promised him anda would look after her, just don’t let it interfere with your job okay.”
“No worries Mac. Stella is lebih than capable of taking care of herself and yes if I’m around when some punk harasses her I will feel obligated to intervene but I’m not about to let my feelings threaten hers atau my career. anda have my word.”
“That’s all I needed to know. So Detective Angell picked up a possible suspect in the Dougherty killing I was about to go down to interrogation and soalan him why don’t anda come along?”
“Sure thing boss let me grab a couple of things out of my locker and I’ll meet anda there. Oh and again thanks for hiring Stella it means a lot to me.”
“You’re welcome she’s going to be an excellent CSI.”
Mac and Danny went down to the interrogation room and went in to soalan Carl Milton about his possible involvement in the death of local real estate agent Matthew Dougherty.
“Mr. Milton where were anda at 11:30 Saturday night?” Mac asked.
“I was seated in between two lovely ladies at the gentleman’s club Rocky’s. I didn’t kill Matthew Dougherty and I have an alibi. No I didn’t like the man and yes we were rivals but I wouldn’t kill him. That would just get me locked up for twenty-five to life. So if anda don’t mind detectives I have somewhere to be.”
“Actually we do mind see your story isn’t adding up Mr. Milton.”
“What do anda mean call Rocky’s talk to Nancy and Gina they’ll tell anda I was with them until 1:00 in the morning Saturday night?”
“We would but as it turns out neither Nancy nor Gina was working that night and none of the employees at the club remember seeing anda there Saturday night. What do anda have to say now?”
“Okay maybe I got their names wrong and half of the people there probably had hangovers the seterusnya hari of course they won’t remember me. Look I want a lawyer before I say another word.”
“Good because you’re going to need one, sejak the way we found your DNA on the victims clothing along with a fingerprint that is also yours. Please feel free to explain this to your lawyer I’m sure he’ll have some sound Nasihat for you.”
Mac stared Milton down for a few saat before getting up and walking out of the room with Danny. Back in the lab Stella had finished processing the victims’ clothes and was running a white powdery substance through GCMS to be identified. Adam and Lindsay walked over to her and asked how it was going.
“Any luck on the sample?”
“Not yet but I just started the scan it will take a couple of minit to ID the substance. What do anda two know?”
“Well I printed the pipe found at the scene and tested it for blood but unless the perp. cleaned it after killing Patrick Walker it’s not our murder weapon.”
“Well I did find something on the vics cell phone. He had one missed call about twenty minit prior to his death and the same number showed up again on the caller ID about ten minit after Sid berkata the time of death was. I’m guessing the mystery caller either knew what was going to happen to the vic and tried to stop it atau is an accomplice. I tried calling the number left on the ID and there was no answer the number has been disconnected. I requested a subpoena for the phone records made to that number in the last three days and the phone company will be sending it before too much longer. So far that’s all I got though.”
The GCMS machine went off and a copy of the lapor was printed out.
“Well it’s not drugs atau gun powder, turns out to be a mixture of flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, and vanilla. Where did our vic work?”
“Uh he was a swimming instructor there at Chelsea universiti and taught swimming lessons to kids after classes on Tuesday and Thursday’s.”
“Okay well we need to see what was in our vics stomach contents and see if these same ingredients were ingested. Our killer might work at a bakery atau a restaurant of some kind.”
“Alright good job Stella, I knew you’d be a natural at this.”
“Well thanks Lindsay but don’t compliment me yet our killer is still out there.”
“Alright I’ll go down to autopsy and ask Sid for Walker’s stomach contents.”
“Thanks Adam.”
While he’s doing that I’m going to dust his tali pinggang buckle for prints and DNA. It will probably all come back to our vic but the killer might have handled the body after he killed him. We’ll see.”
“Alright well I’m going to help Adam filter through the stomach contents and see what we can find. If anda need anything Stella just let me know.”
“Okay.”
The hari went on at around 6:30pm Stella was finally finished documenting all of the evidence she had processed and had put all of her things away. On her way out of the building she ran into Mac.
“Stella, so how was your first day?”
“Very interesting actually I’ve worked with equipment before and everything but working on my first actual dead body and getting to process actual blood and fingerprints. It’s very intriguing I’m going to Cinta this job. Thank anda so much for hiring me Detective Taylor anda won’t regret it.”
“I’m sure I won’t well have a nice hari Stella and it’s Mac.”
“Right well have a nice hari too, Mac. See anda tomorrow.”
“See anda then.”
Mac walked back to his office and Stella walked out through the entrance to hail a cab home. When she got utama she saw Alex in the dapur cooking something on the stove and noticed she also had something in the oven.
“Hey sweetheart what are anda burning?”
“Haha, very funny mom and nothing! I’m a very good cook thank anda plus it’s your favorite. Grandma’s homemade lasagna and steamed vegetables with garlic bread. It’s nowhere near as good as when grandma atau dad made it but I tried. I think it will turn out okay.”
Stella hugged her daughter and kissed her on the forehead.
“You’re the best daughter in the world anda know that! anda didn’t have to cook makan malam, majlis makan malam for me.”
“I know but I wanted too today was your first hari at work so I wanted to do something special for you.”
“Well you’re an Angel thank anda so much. I’m going to go and change then we’ll eat makan malam, majlis makan malam and I’ll tell anda all about work.”
“Okay hei mom do anda work with any hott guys?”
Stella laughed at Alex’s question.
“Well as a matter of fact my boss is gorgeous. He’s also a sweetheart. I’ll tell anda lebih after I’m out of these clothes and changed into something lebih comfortable okay.”
“Alright and I want every detail.”
Stella smiled at her daughter and went into her room to change. She changed into a pair of black sweat pants and a light merah jambu t-shirt. Then she picked up the picture of her and Louie which was on bahagian, atas of her nightstand.
“Hey there honey well I started my new job as a CSI today anda would be so proud of me Louie. It’s been four years but not a hari goes sejak that I don’t think about you. I miss anda so much sometimes when I’m really stressed out atau just sad I’ll crawl in katil with your old leather jaket and just cry until I fall asleep. It’s the only thing I kept of yours besides some pictures anda loved that jaket and I couldn’t make myself throw it away. I know I promised anda that I would alih on after anda died and let another man into my hati, tengah-tengah well I just haven’t found any guy that’s worth it. I’ve dated a few but none of them come close to anda no man will but I just haven’t found that one yet. I will say though that my new boss Detective Mac Taylor the man that questioned anda before anda died he has definitely caught my eye. He is breathtakingly handsome and incredibly nice. He’s damaged though, like me. According to Danny he Lost his wife in 9/11 so he definitely knows what it’s like to lose the person anda love. There’s just something about him he has the kindest eyes and a great smile. I don’t know Louie he might be the one. Of course he probably just sees me as an employee and I just met him but I don’t know there’s just something about him. I felt a major spark today when I met him then he listened so intently when I told him about us and I saw so much understanding in his eyes. Who am I kidding though he’s way out of my league? Alex cooked your mothers’ lasagna tonight she’s such a good kid Louie anda would be so proud of her. Well I Cinta anda baby and I will talk to anda later”
Stella kissed the picture of Louie and then headed into the dapur to eat makan malam, majlis makan malam with Alex.
“Okay mom so spill what is your boss like? Remember I want every detail!”
“Oh you’re just having too much fun with this missy! Well he’s 5’9”, about 180 lbs. very built has brown hair and beautiful blue eyes. He also has a smile that could melt a girl’s heart. He asked me about your father and I. As I told him about our family he listened with so much interest and was so kind about everything. Apparently he Lost his wife in 2001 so he knows how hard it is to lose someone anda Cinta so much. I don’t Alex I mean the man’s my boss but I am very, very interested in him.”
“Well he sounds great mom and anda have my approval. I know anda promised dad when he died that anda would alih on maybe this guy could be him. He could be the saat man to come into your hati, tengah-tengah and Cinta anda and make anda happy. I guess only time will tell.”
“I don’t know Alex he’s my boss and that’s probably all it will ever be.”
“Well anda never know.”
They finished makan malam, majlis makan malam and as Stella was washing dishes Alex sat down at the meja, jadual to do her homework. Suddenly the phone rang and Alex went to answer it.
“Hello?”
“Hi um is Stella Bonasera they sejak any chance? I may have dialed the wrong number.”
“No she’s here may I ask who’s calling?”
“Yes, this is Mac Taylor. I’m Miss Bonasera’s boss and just needed to talk to her briefly. I know it’s late but I just needed to ask her a couple of soalan regarding the job.”
“Oh sure, just a saat Detective Taylor and I’ll get her.”
Stella turned around and stared at her daughter with her mouth wide open.
“It’s for anda mom.” Alex grinned at her.
Stella dried off her hands and took the phone from Alex who just giggled at the shocked expression on her moms face.
“Hel, Hello? This is Stella.”
“Miss Bonasera, I’m sorry to bother anda so late but I had a couple of soalan about some notes anda made on some evidence in the Patrick Walker case. At the end of every shift I go over all case files so don’t think I’m checking up on anda because you’re the new girl. Anyway it says here that there were baking ingredients found on Mr. Walkers’ clothing. I was just wondering if the stomach contents contained any of the same ingredients and if not if anda were able to trace the ingredients to any local restaurants atau bakeries.”
“Oh I must have forgotten to document it but no the victim had only eaten grilled chicken, a baked potato, and a salad. Adam and I contacted a few bakeries in the area that our vic was discovered but no one recognized him atau his name. We’re going to continue questioning different bakeries and restaurants tomorrow though and will hopefully get a lead. Sorry I didn’t make a note of that is the file I will be sure to do so tomorrow. First hari on the job I must have just got a little overwhelmed. It won’t happen again.”
“It’s alright everyone makes mistakes I just wanted to see what anda had come up with thanks for your time and sorry I bothered you.”
“It’s alright thanks for calling me though and not jumping to wrong conclusions like thinking I’m lazy atau something.”
“Thought never crossed my mind. Well anda have a good night Stella and tell your daughter I berkata hello. Goodnight I’ll see anda tomorrow.”
“Goodnight Mac I’ll see anda tomorrow.”
Stella hung up the phone and looked at her daughter with a questioning look on her face.
“What? I didn’t say anything.”
“No it’s not you. It’s just… he could have waited until tomorrow to ask me those soalan they were not crucial to the investigation. He didn’t need to call me at home.”
“You’re seriously complaining? I saw the look on your face when anda talked to him. I haven’t seen anda smile like that in awhile mom!”
“I’m not complaining it’s just odd that he would call me.”
“Who knows maybe he wanted to hear your voice again before he went to sleep.”
“Right Alex that’s it, well I’m going to katil oh and he berkata to tell anda hello. I’ll se anda tomorrow honey I Cinta you.”
“Alright goodnight mom I Cinta anda too.”

“Alright well I’m going to help Adam filter through the stomach contents and see what we can find. If anda need anything Stella just let me know.”
“Okay.”
The hari went on at around 6:30pm Stella was finally finished documenting all of the evidence she had processed and had put all of her things away. On her way out of the building she ran into Mac.
“Stella, so how was your first day?”
“Very interesting actually I’ve worked with equipment before and everything but working on my first actual dead body and getting to process actual blood and fingerprints. It’s very intriguing I’m going to Cinta this job. Thank anda so much for hiring me Detective Taylor anda won’t regret it.”
“I’m sure I won’t well have a nice hari Stella and it’s Mac.”
“Right well have a nice hari too, Mac. See anda tomorrow.”
“See anda then.”
Mac walked back to his office and Stella walked out through the entrance to hail a cab home. When she got utama she saw Alex in the dapur cooking something on the stove and noticed she also had something in the oven.
“Hey sweetheart what are anda burning?”
“Haha, very funny mom and nothing! I’m a very good cook thank anda plus it’s your favorite. Grandma’s homemade lasagna and steamed vegetables with garlic bread. It’s nowhere near as good as when grandma atau dad made it but I tried. I think it will turn out okay.”
Stella hugged her daughter and kissed her on the forehead.
“You’re the best daughter in the world anda know that! anda didn’t have to cook makan malam, majlis makan malam for me.”
“I know but I wanted too today was your first hari at work so I wanted to do something special for you.”
“Well you’re an Angel thank anda so much. I’m going to go and change then we’ll eat makan malam, majlis makan malam and I’ll tell anda all about work.”
“Okay hei mom do anda work with any hott guys?”
Stella laughed at Alex’s question.
“Well as a matter of fact my boss is gorgeous. He’s also a sweetheart. I’ll tell anda lebih after I’m out of these clothes and changed into something lebih comfortable okay.”
“Alright and I want every detail.”
Stella smiled at her daughter and went into her room to change. She changed into a pair of black sweat pants and a light merah jambu t-shirt. Then she picked up the picture of her and Louie which was on bahagian, atas of her nightstand.
“Hey there honey well I started my new job as a CSI today anda would be so proud of me Louie. It’s been four years but not a hari goes sejak that I don’t think about you. I miss anda so much sometimes when I’m really stressed out atau just sad I’ll crawl in katil with your old leather jaket and just cry until I fall asleep. It’s the only thing I kept of yours besides some pictures anda loved that jaket and I couldn’t make myself throw it away. I know I promised anda that I would alih on after anda died and let another man into my hati, tengah-tengah well I just haven’t found any guy that’s worth it. I’ve dated a few but none of them come close to anda no man will but I just haven’t found that one yet. I will say though that my new boss Detective Mac Taylor the man that questioned anda before anda died he has definitely caught my eye. He is breathtakingly handsome and incredibly nice. He’s damaged though, like me. According to Danny he Lost his wife in 9/11 so he definitely knows what it’s like to lose the person anda love. There’s just something about him he has the kindest eyes and a great smile. I don’t know Louie he might be the one. Of course he probably just sees me as an employee and I just met him but I don’t know there’s just something about him. I felt a major spark today when I met him then he listened so intently when I told him about us and I saw so much understanding in his eyes. Who am I kidding though he’s way out of my league? Alex cooked your mothers’ lasagna tonight she’s such a good kid Louie anda would be so proud of her. Well I Cinta anda baby and I will talk to anda later”
Stella kissed the picture of Louie and then headed into the dapur to eat makan malam, majlis makan malam with Alex.
“Okay mom so spill what is your boss like? Remember I want every detail!”
“Oh you’re just having too much fun with this missy! Well he’s 5’9”, about 180 lbs. very built has brown hair and beautiful blue eyes. He also has a smile that could melt a girl’s heart. He asked me about your father and I. As I told him about our family he listened with so much interest and was so kind about everything. Apparently he Lost his wife in 2001 so he knows how hard it is to lose someone anda Cinta so much. I don’t Alex I mean the man’s my boss but I am very, very interested in him.”
“Well he sounds great mom and anda have my approval. I know anda promised dad when he died that anda would alih on maybe this guy could be him. He could be the saat man to come into your hati, tengah-tengah and Cinta anda and make anda happy. I guess only time will tell.”
“I don’t know Alex he’s my boss and that’s probably all it will ever be.”
“Well anda never know.”
They finished makan malam, majlis makan malam and as Stella was washing dishes Alex sat down at the meja, jadual to do her homework. Suddenly the phone rang and Alex went to answer it.
“Hello?”
“Hi um is Stella Bonasera they sejak any chance? I may have dialed the wrong number.”
“No she’s here may I ask who’s calling?”
“Yes, this is Mac Taylor. I’m Miss Bonasera’s boss and just needed to talk to her briefly. I know it’s late but I just needed to ask her a couple of soalan regarding the job.”
“Oh sure, just a saat Detective Taylor and I’ll get her.”
Stella turned around and stared at her daughter with her mouth wide open.
“It’s for anda mom.” Alex grinned at her.
Stella dried off her hands and took the phone from Alex who just giggled at the shocked expression on her moms face.
“Hel, Hello? This is Stella.”
“Miss Bonasera, I’m sorry to bother anda so late but I had a couple of soalan about some notes anda made on some evidence in the Patrick Walker case. At the end of every shift I go over all case files so don’t think I’m checking up on anda because you’re the new girl. Anyway it says here that there were baking ingredients found on Mr. Walkers’ clothing. I was just wondering if the stomach contents contained any of the same ingredients and if not if anda were able to trace the ingredients to any local restaurants atau bakeries.”
“Oh I must have forgotten to document it but no the victim had only eaten grilled chicken, a baked potato, and a salad. Adam and I contacted a few bakeries in the area that our vic was discovered but no one recognized him atau his name. We’re going to continue questioning different bakeries and restaurants tomorrow though and will hopefully get a lead. Sorry I didn’t make a note of that is the file I will be sure to do so tomorrow. First hari on the job I must have just got a little overwhelmed. It won’t happen again.”
“It’s alright everyone makes mistakes I just wanted to see what anda had come up with thanks for your time and sorry I bothered you.”
“It’s alright thanks for calling me though and not jumping to wrong conclusions like thinking I’m lazy atau something.”
“Thought never crossed my mind. Well anda have a good night Stella and tell your daughter I berkata hello. Goodnight I’ll see anda tomorrow.”
“Goodnight Mac I’ll see anda tomorrow.”
Stella hung up the phone and looked at her daughter with a questioning look on her face.
“What? I didn’t say anything.”
“No it’s not you. It’s just… he could have waited until tomorrow to ask me those soalan they were not crucial to the investigation. He didn’t need to call me at home.”
“You’re seriously complaining? I saw the look on your face when anda talked to him. I haven’t seen anda smile like that in awhile mom!”
“I’m not complaining it’s just odd that he would call me.”
“Who knows maybe he wanted to hear your voice again before he went to sleep.”
“Right Alex that’s it, well I’m going to katil oh and he berkata to tell anda hello. I’ll se anda tomorrow honey I Cinta you.”
“Alright goodnight mom I Cinta anda too.”
