Imagine that anda are in a boat. There are other people in your boat. There is also one person in the water. Allowing this person to get onto your bot will not sink the boat. Everyone could easily fit comfortably. But still, there is a person in the water.

Now, if this person was only in the water for a short time, then yes, saying, "Hey, guys, lend me a hand onto your boat?" is probably exactly what she would do. But imagine this person has been in the water for hours. And imagine that it was other people in the bot that pushed her in there. Not you, of course. anda didn't push her in. But other people in your position did. And now, she is screaming for help, because she is drowning. She is yelling and panicky and angry at the people who pushed her in.

There are people in your bot that actively say she does not deserve help for whatever reason. That it's her own fault she's in the water and if she really wanted to get on the boat, then she should be lebih respectful. lebih calm. Smile more, speak lebih softly. Basically, they are saying that she should act like the people who are already in the bot are acting.

But the people already in the bot aren't drowning.

Obviously, anda being a good person, would say, "Screw anda guys, I'm helping the drowning person get into the boat!" But you'll be met with, "Oh, that's not fair. I didn't get any help getting into the boat. Don't we deserve to be treated equally?" and "Yeah, but anda know she's just going to get water in our bot and make it smell like sea water and algae. Do we REALLY want that on our boat?" and even the lebih blunt, "Don't help her, she deserves to drown."

Meanwhile, she is screaming. She is flailing, she is cursing, and she is drowning. And can we really blame her? If she's been in the water for hours, she's tired, she's been asking anda for hours to let her on the boat, and anda just sit there and watch. Because she didn't ask nicely enough.

Now imagine someone else shows up on a kayak for one. He hears the drowning person in the water, and says, "Hey, please let her on your boat. She's cold and spluttering and terrified. She's a human being. Treat her like one." He is respectful. He is calm. He is smiling and speaking softly. He already has a boat.

"Well, if she wanted on the boat, all she had to do was ask nicely," they say as they begrudgingly give her a hand.

Remember one thing: People who hold the power have the privilege of being polite. People who hold the power have the privilege of deciding when to face racism and when to ignore it. And people who don't, are drowning.

There has been a lot of discussion around the topic of abortion lately, partly influenced sejak baru-baru ini political gaffes sejak republican senators concerning the concept of abortion in cases of rape.

Let me just say that I am pro-choice. I am not pro-choice because I hate Bayi atau children, atau because I believe a fetus isn't a living thing. Maybe that makes me worse, because I Cinta children. I Cinta children so much, I invested in them sejak choosing a career in nurturing them and their minds and helping them grow. I recognize that even if we quibble about the specific definition of where life begins,...

Should projects involving eminent domain require citizen approval?

No, projects involving eminent domain should NOT require citizen approval.

I think that when anda let people have input in cases where eminent domain is being used, anda undermine the use of eminent domain.
Eminent domain should only be used when it benefits the public good. Undermining that rule would damage the public good. Like stated before, people hardly think about the public good when it is about their own stuff.

People are often emotional in these cases: they want to keep their property even though they get a just compensation....

This artikel is, perhaps, mislabled, as there are several ironies concerning the American political party system. But I want to focus on a major one, an amusing one, really, and that is the difference between a party's economic politics and its social politics.

When asked what the main difference between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party is, the answer that comes is simple enough. The democrats believe in big government, and the republicans believe in small governent. That is to say, democrats would want the government taking care of anda at all times whereas the republicans would...

Part of me feels that America didn't vote for Barack Obama, not for his ideas nor his charisma. When America voted Obama, they were above all voting democrat due to the current economical situation in the US.
Although the tinjauan-tinjauan told us that Obama was in the lead, one might have still predicted Mccain as the final outcome.
As previously an African American president was unheard of. Even his predicted outcome in the tinjauan-tinjauan failed to convince me, believing that Obama like so many other black political figures in America would suffer the 'bradley effect'.
This would lead many to the conclusion that...
