Someone in the Disney merchandise department seems to have decided that Belle’s bunga is the rose – a decision I don’t really agree with. Yes, I know, the rose is featured very prominently in the movie. But it’s not really a symbol for Belle; it’s a symbol the need of the Beast to find true love. Which is, btw, the meaning of red roses: True Love. Seeing Belle as the rose, she would be symbolically under glass for the whole movie, and that doesn’t suit her character at all. In fact, shortly after the Beast puts the glass over his rose possessively, Belle flees from the castle.
The whole connection to the rose gets even lebih iffy, when the color changed to yellow to suit Belle’s ball gown. Since yellow Ros stand not only for friendship, but also jealousy, infidelity, a broken hati, tengah-tengah and extreme betrayal, this combination, while optical pleasing, doesn’t fit Belle’s personality atau story at all.
But there is another bunga which is explicitly connected with Belle during the movie: The Dandelion. In the language of Bunga this plant is overlooked pretty often, and if it’s mentioned the meanings tend to differ. One I found is coquetry, which is lebih atau less the opposite of what Belle does: Instead of pretending to be not interested in Gaston to win him over, she pretends to like him in order to get him out of her hair – and out of the door, once and for all. The possible meaning I like best is “Wishes come true", because it fits the movie so well - Belle lebih atau less is wishing on the dandelions. Plus, I appreciate the idea that the seeds are flying with the wind, as free as Belle truly is - a much lebih fitting image for her personality than a rose under glass.
To honor the Princess of the month, here two kertas-kertas dinding – one for the bunga and one a little bit lebih fitting for December.
