I agree. I think she has really good points especially about Ariel. She was my favorite when I was younger and you can argue that she wanted to be a human before Eric but I just find her to be a bit selfish and that people really loved her and she didn't have much of a reason to leave the ocean as melody did but that's just me. Haha that was a really awful run on sentence.

I agree with her points about Melody but disagree with her about Ariel. However I do agree that Melody's life was worse and that she had more of a reason for running away. I wish someone would make a video like this with Tramp and Scamp and tells why Scamp is a better character than Tramp. Also you might wanna link the video. link

I disagree with her points about Ariel (I already wrote long posts about how I don't see Ariel moving away from her family as a selfish act nor do I see her doing it for the sole reason of having a man, considering she dreamt of being a part of that world long before Eric) and her interpretation of Ariel's motives, BUT I'm glad that someone shares my opinion about Melody and actually puts an effort into understanding her character better. I feel like most people don't really undersrand where Melody was coming from. I enjoy Melina's rants anyway, because even when I disagree, I think she makes good points.

BelleAnastasia - Ariel did not do it "for a guy", Eric was one of many reasons but not the main one. She was not doing anything with her love for Eric before Triton destroyed all of her collection she had been working her whole life at. All because he refused to accept the fact that she did not share his opinion about human world and dared to fall for someone being a 16 years old teenager so he assumed she deserved to be emotionally abused for that. She even wanted to meet Eric in a mermaid form before all that happened, Ariel intended to get to know Eric and not just crush on him after one meeting even if that meeting bonded them forever by her saving his life. When things became completely hopeless or she believed they were hopeless because her father not only crossed the line into emotional abuse, but made it clear he was not going to consider Ariel's side of things regarding her opinion about the human world, she decided to act on her own. She wanted to be a part of that world long before even seeing Eric and she chose to be a part of it and I see nothing wrong with it. People grow up and move out from their parents even if parents protest and believe they know best. I'm not saying Ariel was not selfish but I completely disagree with her being more selfish than most of the princesses were or that she did what she did just because of her crush on Eric. The whole storyline of the movie was building up to her leaving the sea one day.

I also want to highlight that while I disagree with the Ariel part of the video, I'm glad Melina put an effort into understanding Melody's character and her motivations, because I feel like a lot of people misjudge Melody and bash her in a rather unfair way. She is far from being the best Disney character, but she isn't bad either and she had her reasons.

Her points about Melody were valid but just because there's no "obvious" reason for her to love the land doesn't mean it's any less valid than Melody's love of the sea. There's no reason for why we love things or want them in our lives. If we enjoy them, we enjoy them! You don't have to be related to Walt to love Disney or something.
