I think this is most likely what happened, I doubt she had no reaction to it.

She new humans ate fish and didn't seem to care. She only cared 'hey I can't get eaten so, I don't care' poor Sebastian almost getting killed and in TLM2 chef Louis is still there probably cooking up his SPECIALTY stuffed crab! Ariel for real probably doesn't mind, or eats it herself. It's basically like a human eating primates, except its a Mermaid eating fish.

I doubt she cared.

Ariel has a blatant track record of not caring as long as it's not happening to her. Flounder's scared of sharks? Ariel doesn't care, because SHE'S not scared. Triton and Sebastian are angry about the concert being ruined? Ariel doesn't care, because SHE wasn't there. Sebastian repeatedly suffers dangers and "humiliations"? Ariel doesn't care, because SHE'S not going through it.

News flash! No one forced Flounder to come with Ariel, Ariel apologized for ruining the concert, and Ariel couldn't say anything to Sebastian about his humiliations because SHE HAD NO FREAKING VOICE!!!!!!!!!!! I am sick of all this Ariel hate and people treating her like she's some kind of villain!

Katara: Did you watch the movie?

1) Flounder is clearly scared but Ariel manipulates him into coming along by calling him a "guppy," knowing that that'll compell him to try to prove he's not, and saying "you can stay here and watch for sharks," knowing it'll scare him into coming along. And she has no compassion for his fear since, again, SHE'S not scared, so she'll laugh and make fun of him even though, in his words, "You know I can't swim that fast."

2) She didn't apologize for the concert, she said "I'm sorry, I just forgot" as a way to try to get them to stop reprimanding. An actual apology means admitting that you've done wrong, taking responsibility for your actions, and being willing to make amends. The fact that Ariel expects them to just drop it and gets annoyed when they don't accept "I just forgot" as an excuse and keep telling her how her actions negatively affected them shows that she's not really sorry she missed it, she's "sorry" that she's in trouble.

3) No voice is no excuse. Just because Ariel can't TALK doesn't mean she can't express concern for his well-being. Which she doesn't. I watched the scene again. She's brushing her hair, Sebastian says, "This has got to be the most humiliating day of my life!" She just pats him on the head and keeps walking. He says "I hope you appreciate what I go through for you!" And guess what? SHE TUNES HIM OUT! She just sits on the bed, enjoys how soft it is, and goes to sleep while he's in the middle of talking to her.

I repeat: no compassion, no consideration, no care for things not happening to her or directly in front of her. She certainly doesn't lose sleep over humans eating crabs for dinner or Sebastian nearly getting eaten too because he agreed to stay and help her woo the prince.

You're sick of "all this Ariel hate"? Too bad.

I watched the movie today and I have the movie memorized. Flounder wasn't forced into coming on the adventure in the first place. Besides, Ariel is right, he'd be safer with her than just by himself where there are sharks. I don't know if you're aware of this, because I don't see any compassion in you at all, but that's what friends do. They get them to do what they want them to so they can have a good time. He comes along with her but didn't have to, to begin with! He could have just let her go by herself but he just had to come with her. He has a mind of his own, she didn't force him to come on the adventure, she just wasn't going to let him back out once he was with her to begin with. Besides, if he had left without her he would've been dead and never reached Atlantica. So don't go blaming Ariel just because Flounder is a tag along.

Last time I checked "I'm sorry" is an apology genius! Admitting that she forgot is admitting she made a mistake and she was about to continue talking about how sorry she was until Triton interrupted her. Besides, last time I checked that's someone that every human being does in a situation like that and if you say you don't that's obviously a big fat lie. Forgetting is a mistake so she was admitting her mistake, not making excuses because forgetting is a mistake, like I said.

Ariel can't talk and shows it in facial expression when she sees him. She shows concern and has him hurry so she can save him. She shows concern and is compassionate for people. HELLO! That scene was done hours after what happened to Sebastian! What makes you think she didn't show more concern for him during that time? It's not like she fell asleep while he was talking about his problems, it was while he was giving her some bad love advice, yeah I think that's something that's alright to fall asleep to.

It's such a shame you don't have good reasons to hating her and just have these half, no, not even half-baked reasons, not even close to half! These reasons are so poor that a three year old could come up with better reasons. How you were voted the wisest fanpop user I will never understand because wise doesn't suit such a closed-minded and ignorant person.

Tygers_Eye picked She had no reaction at all:
And just like that, I can no longer take you seriously.

You keep giving Ariel the benefit of the doubt of doing nice things off-screen and act like it's indisputable canon. You can assume that Ariel invited Flounder to come along earlier for the sake of having fun and that he jumped at the chance to tag along, but we're not shown this. Your interpretation of the scene is not fact.

I'm going off of what we actually see on screen. Since Ariel is shown being far ahead of Flounder to the ship, gets impatient, rolls her eyes and snaps "Flounder! Hurry up!" when he calls for her to wait for him; since he's shown to be EXHAUSTED catching up with her, and she ignores him when she says "You know I can't swim that fast!" to gush over the ship instead ("There it is! Isn't it fantastic?"); since he looks visibly scared of the ship, says "Now let's get out of here!" but she physically GRABS HIS FINS SO HE CAN'T SWIM AWAY, says "You're not getting cold fins now, are you?" and drags him along with her, I DOUBT this venture was at all for his benefit.

If Ariel did indeed invite Flounder along for the sake of having fun, she sure doesn't seem bothered that he's not enjoying himself a wit when they get there. If he jumped at the chance to come along of his own volition, he seems pretty unhappy and uneasy about the whole venture before they both even get there. Not to mention he only SAYS he's having fun when Ariel taunts him about being afraid ("You're not getting cold fins now, are you?" "Don't be such a guppy!") because he doesn't want her to think him a coward, and she's willing to use that emotional leverage to push him to do things she knows he doesn't want to do, I doubt he volunteered to come along because he legitimately thought it would be fun, or that he's "a tag along" she has no responsibility for.

"Last time I checked 'I'm sorry' is an apology genius!"

No, "I'm sorry" are just throwaway words. You know all those people at school that constantly talk during class or talk while you're talking, the teacher or you call them out on it, they say "I'm sorry" but keep doing it anyway? Yeah, just saying "I'm sorry" does not constitute an apology. It just constitutes saying "I'm sorry." What the person does after saying it constitutes whether they truly internalize wrongdoing, are willing to accept responsibility, and make things right.

Considering Sebastian says at the start of the movie "If only she'd show up for rehearsals once in a while" before the concert starts and Ariel fails to show up, it seems that simply not showing up is a recurring behavior for Ariel. If she "just forgot" once or twice but otherwise had a record of showing up when and where she's supposed to, I could understand. But since she's CONSTANTLY "forgetting," then the commitments she makes to other people simply aren't important enough for Ariel to remember. Ergo, other people aren't important to her. Ergo, her "I'm sorry, I just forgot" is neither an apology nor an excuse.

Again, I said in the other poll that Ariel saves people from the jaws of death when they're directly in front of her, but otherwise could care less about their emotional well-being. Apparently Sebastian is supposed to care about her secret human collection and her desire to become human enough not tell her dad (even though he can get punished for it), but she doesn't have to care about making his concerts, following his advice, have the courtesy to listen while he's addressing her, show concern for his emotional well-being as he puts himself in danger to help her, or gratitude for said danger and nerves. Everyone has to care about the feelings of Ariel, but Ariel doesn't have to care about the feelings of others.

That scene was done hours after what happened to Sebastian! What makes you think she didn't show more concern for him during that time?

Because nowhere in the film is Ariel shown showing concern for others' emotional well-being over near-death experiences after the immediate danger of death has passed. Exhibit A: Flounder screams in terror after seeing a human skeleton, knocks over a pillar, and flies into her arms. She says "Oh, are you all right?" Still shaking, he gasps "Yeah, sure, I-I'm okay." Literally right after the words escape her mouth and as soon as he starts talking, she tunes him out, starts looking around, then shushes him and moves onto the next place she wants to be. Didn't wait two seconds before she stopped caring about him. Exhibit B: Flounder almost gets eaten by the shark, Ariel pulls him through the anchor, the shark gets stuck in the anchor, she stoops down to pick up her bag instead of asking or checking to see if Flounder is okay. Flounder blows a raspberry at the shark and almost gets bit. He was almost killed and bitten, then screams in fear and swims away. Her response? "(laughs) Flounder, you really are a guppy!" Yeah Ariel, it's so funny that he almost got killed because he came to the ship he didn't want to be in because you basically shamed him into tagging along against his will, and then he got scared.

She doesn't show concern for the emotional well-being of Flounder, supposedly her best friend, after he's been in danger. She doesn't show concern or remorse when Sebastian tells her "Thanks to you I'm the laughing stock of the entire kingdom!" She doesn't show concern or remorse when Sebastian says "My nerves are shot! This is a catastrophe! What would her father say? I'll tell you what her father'd say! He'd say 'he's gonna kill himself a crab,' that's what her father'd say!" If anything, she looks amused as she picks seaweed out of her hair. Only when Sebastian says "I'm gonna march meself straight home..." that she suddenly become concerned and try to stop him.

BASED ON THE CONCERN ARIEL HAS SHOWN OTHER CHARACTERS IN PERILOUS SITUATIONS EARLIER IN THE MOVIE, I don't think Ariel showed Sebastian any concern off-screen after he was nearly made into dinner. YOU might think so based on how much you like Ariel and how much you want to give her the benefit of the doubt. Based on how she ACTUALLY BEHAVES on-screen through several scenes before that point, I'm inclined to think Ariel doesn't care about the emotional well-being of those around her.

Maybe you're right. Maybe she does care or show concern for whether they live or die, as you said. But after they're out of immediate life-or-death danger, they can have PTSD for all she cares. She's not going to show or offer emotional support, nor apologize or show appreciation for them putting themselves in those situations for her benefit.

I have reasons to think what I do, and I back it up with scenes ACTUALLY IN THE MOVIE, not just "This could have happened off screen" like you.

I think she had no reaction because she was zoned in on Eric. Most likely (what I think) is she didn't hear Carlotta. When she does see Sebastian she is shock and surprised. Maybe because she didn't expect a live crab or for it to be Sebastian, but she is surprised. I don't think she eats dinner unless it was more than one course and one course wasn't sea food. She was pretty wrapped up daydreaming and looking at Eric to probably worry about eating.

She may have been human right then but I don't think she would throw a life time diet of not eating seafood out the window the first time she is confronted with seafood for dinner. She care(s/d) more about her friends then to do that.

I doubt she didn't have any reaction. But she was in a new situation with a lot on her mind, so she didn't really have time to figure something out. @ KotokoAlhara, I'm sure they eat some seafood too, it's not crabs. That would be wired to eat some crabs, and have others as friends.
