the only reason why I say Mulan is less brave is because:

a. I can imagine Pocahontas doing everything Mulan did, while I can't imagine it the other way around
b. Mulan was insecure and scared at first. Pocahontas never was.

Really narrowly divided here though.

@princesslullaby: You see, I think the fact that Mulan was so scared and still did all the amazing things she did makes her even braver. I get your point though- I may change my vote later.

Mulan was a lot more independent. She had her horse and that was about it. Pocahontas had all her forest friends and her grandmother tree. I feel like it would take more guts to go out on your own into war than stopping a war at home. Yes, she had Mushu, but not til she made her decision.

I find Pocahontas a little closer to reckless than brave. I do think she's brave, but there's a big air of impulsiveness and recklessness to her actions. Diving off a cliff, diving in front of John Smith, sneaking off to see a forbidden boyfriend. Hers are often spur of the moment, didn't think it through actions. It's not really the same to me as going through arduous training leading up to war, having two opportunities to quit after having plenty of time to face the danger of your situation (Mulan could've left when Shang dismisses her during the song make a man out of you, or after they find out she's a woman and leave her) yet still staying in the drawn out danger and risking your life a lot when you don't need to. On top of that, I also just find Mulan's shows of bravery bigger and better.
I still do consider Pocahontas very brave, and I'm glad these are the top two.

Well, here I am, defending Mulan:
Mulan was conscious about everything she did, and what will be consequences if she get discovered. She has to live with those thoughts all the time but she never turned back or even thought to give up.

Pocahontas on the other hand had no idea that white people will come and that they are dangerous. She find it out like when Kocoum was killed. And she had no idea what to do once when John Smith got captured. I'm not saying that she isn't brave but she just trow herself over John Smith defending him from his father. It didn't took that much bravery for that, her father certainly wouldn't kill her. So I don't see what was so extraordinary brave about what she did

Pocahontas offered up her head to be chopped off - I think that's braver than doing ANY kind of fighting.
