Bananas Have Potassium (And Other Things We Learned From Disney Movies)
If you are anything like us (and we know you are), then you love Disney movies for the storytelling, songs, and the way they make you feel. But while you were wrapped up in the experience of watching these great films, you probably didn’t realize that you were getting an education. That’s right, thrown into some of your favorite movies are fun facts that have just stayed with us over time. Here are eight little tidbits that we all learned from Disney movies:
When Mitch can’t find his potassium vitamins, the other kids need to help ASAP! Adam reads the label for milk, which has vitamin D and calcium, but then remembers, “Bananas have potassium! Lots of it!” And that little fun fact has stayed with us to this day!
When Carl is trying to convince Russell to stay in the house, he warns that tigers may attack him. Russell, always quick on his feet and knowledgeable of his surroundings, tells Carl the facts.
♫ “Theeere’s Epipelagic, Mesopelagic, Bathypelagic, Abyssopelagic, all the rest are too deep for you and me to seeee.” ♫
The first line of the movie says it all. “In Sixteen Hundred-Seven” after a four-month voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, the Jamestown Settlement in the Virginia Colony was founded as the first permanent English settlement in America.
5. Stars are great burning balls of gas millions of miles away. (
Do you ever find yourself laying in the savanna grass with your two best friends looking up at the stars and wondering, “What are those twinkling lights in the sky made of?” Thanks to Pumbaa and his infinite wisdom on all things gas related, we now know.
When Elizabeth Swann invokes the right of parley, she mentions that the pirates Bartholomew and Morgan wrote those rights into the Pirate Code. Not only is the Pirate Code a real thing, but so are the men who helped author versions of the code!
*DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME* Sid was a bad kid. A really bad kid. So nothing he does should ever be replicated in real life. Really. Don’t do it. But when Sid captures Woody, the former uses a magnifying glass to burn a hole into the latter. Later in the movie, when Woody needs to light the rocket fuse, he remembers that glass + sun = fire, and grabs Buzz by the air-shield. But please note, and we are obligated to say this again, do not try any of this at home.
