Can anda be Emo without looking emo?

There is no possible way I can ever look Emo without my whole fuking life exploding all at once. I'm trying to look Emo a little bit at a time, but the hair is a no go. :( my parents are always criticizing Emo people and they don't know about my interests. Is it lame that I act Emo and call that being emo?
