MelodyLaurel picked of course I think about the whole story before publishing it:
I hate discontinuing and/or deleting them so I usually have the whole plot and ending outlined on paper before I start doing anything.

I added that choice because it goes farther than just "thinking" about the plot. I post when about 80% of my fic is completed. I hate to disappoint my readership - I read too many good fics that were never completed, which frustrated me a lot.

Besides, it's always very funny to read reviews stating that "you should do this" or "write that" while the whole thing was written weeks or months ago !

I outline the entire story, but leave it vague enough to add little tangents in later.

When I write my stories after ch 1 is posted if it's not a short story, I usually plan my stories as I go along. It helps me. Sometimes the story will be discontinued which I also don't like doing myself or it will go ahead and finish.

Legit, pretty much noting is planned, and what is is not set in stone. I actually come up with sentences as I'm typing them. And if I don't like it I go back and make corrections.

I wrote a OUAT fic once. My initial plan was simply Regina is turned into a kid in order to save her son; somewhere down the lines it turned into a Hook Queen fic.

Take out the "almost" and that's me. I feel that writing it in full before publishing it is a smart thing to do since: 1) It reduces the possibility of a long update wait due to personal life/writer's block/work/school/etc. 2) If you happen to want to go back and change something, you can without confusing the reader. 3)While you're publishing that story, you can be starting on another!

For those who post complete fics, how long do you wait before posting each chapter? Or do you post the entire story in one go?

@Flickerflame: I usually post every four days, just to leave some mystery after the previous cliffhanger.

That's what I was thinking, that you'd want to give readers some time to react.
