Rational discussions is definitely the best way to overcome conflicts, but in Harry Potter, we're dealing with Voldemort, not a bunch of posh political types. And when reading a book, epic battles are far more enjoyable. The Twilight ending was a huge let-down.

It's the most ideal, but not always the most effective.
I don't think you should resort to violence without discussing first, though.

Luckily for the Cullens (and my sanity), Aro was more interested in preserving his power than he was in "defeating" them. Aro didn't have any expendables like the Death Eaters. Everyone was valuable to him.
I detest reading through battle scenes, they're the most tedious scenes to force my way through.
I would have really disliked Breaking Dawn if it ended with a battle.

So we just prefer different things. I like battle scenes, you don't, and that's great! That's what this site is for, differing opinions.

Depends on the situation. If you're in Harry's then I guess you'd have to fight. For Twilight, rational discussions (even though it's unrealistic IMO).

In most cases, rational discussion is best, but if it's serious, physical violence is often necessary.

Hopefully for the movie they do incorporate some kind of battle or fight because as TriaRose said, it was quite a let-down. I do believe that it is better to overcome any conflict with a discussion rather than a fight but they're just fictional stories, guys! No need to get all angry.

I agree with cassie-1-2-3 that rational discussion is the most ideal, though at times not the most effective. True power is when one has the power to persuade masses through speech but also has a thousand armies ready for force at their disposal. Look at Adolf Hitler, whose mistakes has resulted in the deaths of 6 million Jews, whose skills has made him the best politician to ever walk the earth. He combined the two.

Rational discussion is always the best way, but sadly it doesn't not happen as much in real life which makes it unrealistic.

In the world of literature physical violence. A simple discussion isn't exactly exciting to a reader.

I agree with the others! its depends on the situation. but because they are fantasy they have to have a massive break out and they have to start a war. BECAUSE ITS REAL LIFE AND HARRY POTTER REALISTIC. but a peaceful war is also good but when the going gets though you have to take action!
