To be honest, I don't think she should've killed off as many people as she did. I understand the reasoning behind Sirius, Dumbledore, and Cedric, people most other deaths were just too much

Probably because Lily and James dying was such an essential plot device. Let's face it Harry wouldn't have been so special without Lily's sacrifice. Where as with the other characters there's an almost sense of futility to their deaths. But I guess that's part of life...and war specially.
