Katy Perry just dropped a brand new song and it\'s everything. 

The \'Dark Horse\' singer - who has not released new music since her double platinum album 

 back in October 2013 - surprised everyone by releasing the track \'Rise\' today (July 15).

And when you have as many followers as Katy, people are sure to take notice...

"TOGETHER: WE RISE," said the 31-year-old singer, who linked to the Apple iTunes page for the track.

In a statement, Katy said: "This is a song that\'s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface.

"I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite.

"I know that together we can rise above the fear - in our country, and around the world."

"I can\'t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be," said Katy.

"I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honoured that NBC Olympics has chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games."

With lyrics like, "When the fire\'s at my feet again. And the vultures all start circling. They\'re whispering, you\'re out of time. But still, I rise," could this be the Taylor Swift diss track the world has been waiting for, or has she chosen to \'rise\' above the whole drama?

Katy recently seemed to get involved in Calvin Harris\'s Twitter rant after Taylor revealed that she helped pen the Scottish DJ\'s hit single, \'This Is What You Came For\' - so the release of this single would be pretty apt timing.
