It was Mikami who made a mistake, not Light. He had to give the notebook to someone loyal and Mikami was just perfert - a fanatic ready to do everything for his god. Pity he ruined it all in the end. Poor Light.

Mikami can take part blame.But Misa was a problem, herself. Apparently, Light kills off the only one who truly was loyal, Kiyomi. Kiyomi did what he demanded, til her death. How many times did Misa and Mikami messed up? Oh course, that's something fans like to bitch and moan about. Like, omg she killed mello or that she hopped on Light's dick. When Light chose to cheat.
