I think this question runs deeper than the way it was asked. There are so many different roads intersecting w/in it. It can be confusing. I mean, are we saying that sex is just a physical act, or the physical act of love, and so forth. 2 many questions stem from the question itself!

It IS how Mother Nature originally intended it. What we know as 'romantic' love originates from what the animals have, which, sadly, is just for reproductive purposes.
But we humans are so cool, intelligent and awesome that we went and turned it into something different, something way deeper, which is (romantic) love.
Once again, it is proven that humans are awesome, animals are pathetic!
