'For death and sorrow, the color's white' - but why?

Well, for 'mundanes' white usually represents purity and innocence except in China and parts of Africa, where white is the actual mourning color, but why is it the color of death for shadowhunters? What does is represent? A new beginning? Between, white has become the mourning color for me as well

I'm not too sure, but I thought it was something to do with the colour of Bones for this series atau something?
I tried to cari it up but all I could find was that the mourning rune is actually a red colour (according to Tessa) for some reason. Strange.

Normal runes are black and fade to white once used. I guess the mourning ones are red to be different,
