No, I don't think it awkward at all. I view different 'flicks' as either films or movies. So it all depends.

It also depends on who I am talking to. As others pointed out, the word is Film in many languages and they get confused if I say Movie in Sweden sometimes... yet I use that word the most when talking to my kids in the US

I sometimes call them filums too! but in sort of a jokey way. My friend always says that and he is Irish so maybe it is an irish thing.

If I'm going to the theaters or something, I say movie. If we're watching a boring video in class about the Civil War, then I'll say it's a film.

Yeah, I always thought of 'movie' as a more American word. My Dad says filum though, but he's not Irish. He also says wishdosher, and grils instead of girls.
