Changelings have existed for lebih than 4 million years, and they are the one of the oldest known species in Equestria. When the world was first created, there was nothing but changelings. Soon enough, the changelings discovered the art of disguise, and the lebih times they reproduced the better they got at mimicking pony-like figures. As time passed, lebih of the offspring where born already transfigured as a pony, and stayed that way. Pure changelings are extremely uncommon, and it is estimated that there are less than ten thousand left.
