he could have gotten a better line, how about "you know what happens when you die, you are gone and no one cares for you anymore."

seriously, Mark could have given Austin some great dialog..similar to his convo with Brooke...I mean suicide is a matter in which some people are touched by it and others not so much...but after finding a girl with a tub full of blood...the story could have had more meat.

perhaps, "Alex, I am mad at you. You know what happens when you die, you are just gone...no one cares for you, no one grieves for you...not after this! It is selfish and stupid. Life is hard, and you deal with it, you don't just give up."

i was actually not surprised at all, julian's dialogue is always terrible. it's one of the reasons why his character is so irrating, lol.

ok so don't get me wrong...to just read that statement by itself it definitely sounds dumb- and completely obvious. and i wouldn't say my response to this pick would be "Stop mocking me, it's a serious matter!"-- but i just think that the problem with this scene was not that julian's dialogue was so bad, but it was that they split up his two scenes in the hospital with alex, when it should have been one consecutive shot. this line that's quoted in this pick is pretty much a continuation of his statement that "you could have died and there's nothing special or romantic about that- you would have just been gone."

i don't know what it's like all around the world, but in american society people are so obsessed with this idea of after-life. the idea that something HAS to come after death. but i truly believe that nothing comes after death...you're dead and that's final. i don't believe there's a heaven, or a hell, or that you'll be watching over the people you love. killing yourself isn't a way to make a point of your beliefs, and it's not a romantic way of professing your love for another person. all killing yourself does is make you dead. it's such a simple statement but in reality- most people are in denial of it. it's too scary for most people to believe that death is final and nothing comes after it...but unfortunately by having these beliefs it creates delusions for people who want an escape from life and for people who want to make a statement in the world saying that death is some incredible escape-- that it can solve your problems, it can be a big romantic gesture, or it can simply allow you to "move on to a better place"
i'm sorry if i'm offending anyone who believes in an after life...but i think julian's point was simply that death is final--- it doesn't solve your problems because once you die you no longer exist.

maybe they could have had julian's character elaborate on this idea a little more...but i wouldn't say that the meaning behind his statement was completely obvious to most people. if they hadn't broken up the two scenes with commercials and other scenes in between--- then it could have made a little more sense and his statement could have had more of an affect on the audience (other than laughter i mean...)
