Princess Diana's Old Car Is On Sale For $70,000 

A convertible Audi that Princess Diana used to carpool with sons Prince William and Prince Harry is up for grabs — if you have around $70,000 to spare.

It is among a prized set of classic cars, which also includes a Bentley once owned by Queen Elizabeth, that will be up for bid on November 12 and 13 as part of the auction “Jewels in the Crown.”

Diana bought the Audi from a dealership in northwest London in 1994 (three years before she died) and apparently only drove about 4,000 miles in it. Insiders at Silverstone Auctions suggest that because she was spotted in it by photographers — sometimes with her sons — she switched to other cars at her disposal too. She was also pictured driving it to and from her gym at the Harbour Club in Chelsea.

The car still carries the same L449 TRP registration plate as when it was bought and has an estimated sale price of $63,500-$76,000.

A Bentley Mulsanne, made especially for the Queen for her 2012 Diamond Jubilee tour of Great Britain, is being sold for between $272,000-$300,000. Finished in Barnato Green, it is fitted with walnut burr-veneered picnic tables and waist rails with inlaid royal crests.

The car also features subtle security features, including front and rear blue flashing lights, Kevlar-reinforced tyres and armor protection and glass.

The Queen also traveled in it when she was invited to her only Cabinet Meeting at 10 Downing Street in 2012.

Also up for auction: a 2005 Rolls-Royce Phantom first owned by Sir Elton John that is estimated to fetch between $171,000-$196,000.

Silverstone Auctions is not naming the man who owned the collection apart from confirming that he felt now is the time to sell.

“It’s an honor for Silverstone Auctions to offer cars with such amazing provenance, cars that belonged to HM The Queen, as well as being owned by some of the most influential personalities of the 20th century,” said Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions. “We anticipate a huge amount of interest in these cars from across the globe. These cars have been wonderfully cared for over their lifetimes and we look forward to finding them new homes.”
