I don't give them a moment to even THINK about typing "What's up?"

No, that's when you're supposed to say "And you?", so they have a chance to say something.

If your trying to ask people if this kind of thing is rude than no it isn't.
The reason people don't reply back right away is because they're either doing something and they don't have the time to write back every minute, so don't make it sound like it's that big of a deal.

That's why anda say "What about you?" after anda tell them what you're doing.

Then it doesn't happen.

That's exactly why I don't have Facebook. That, and the weekend that I had it, people just kept postin all over my wall.

That's when anda ask why they're doing.

If someone is doing that, it usually means they don't want to talk to you, so yeah lol.
