How bad does a novacaine shot hurt?

I have to get one tomorrow, and my entire family is telling me it hurts like a son-of-a-gun. I have a very low pain tolerance. Does it really hurt that bad?

That shot they give anda in your mouth when anda go to the dentist to numb your mouth so they can work.

When I got my cavity filled, they first numbed my gums up with this weird gel stuff. After that, they put the shot in. It felt uncomfortable, but it didn't hurt. I think the shot would be a good ten seconds, maybe even less. It just seems like a long time because you're scared. After that, everything's okay.
