An electric guitar? I'd start with a standard Gibson Stratocaster. That's the one I started out with. I now have a Soulbinder, but a Stratocaster is a good gitar to start with.

If anda want an acoustic guitar, I started with a steel-string Western guitar. Steel strings are easier to play, since nylon strings tend to 'move down' with your pick more. That can be a bit annoying. I'd start with a steel-string gitar if I were you.

When anda get your first guitar, always go for something that is cheap and not exactly precision, maybe even a used one. Why? Because anda might loose interest very quickly, atau anda might decide that it isn't for you, so really, get anything. If anda have been playing for at least 2 years and anda are really enjoying it, and practacing well, then anda are ready to kick it up a notch, and if anda haven't found out enough about guitars sejak then to decide, then something is wrong, but if anda don't know, then anything sejak Gibson is usually good and Fenders are good, but I have heard they are over priced.
