My parents aren't strict at all.

Yeah, I'm 19 and they won't let me out on my own unless I tell them where I am and they try to restrict what I read/watch

^^^ If you still live with your parents, regardless of whether you're over 18, they can still control you to some extent.

Mine were never strict, but then again I was never very.. problematic. I've always been an introvert and homebody, lol.

When I was younger they tried to restrict what I watched and read, including the internet, which I heard was a lot more severe than what other kids I knew were accustomed to. And when they realized they couldn't control everything I did on the computer they put on those damn parental controls which to this day still frustrates me when I think back on it. I was blocked out of websites that I was required to go on for homework because one single ad could block the whole page and asdfjkl; it was so useless, unnecessary, and humiliating. In addition to them having nothing to worry about because everything I liked was safe and family-friendly (at the time - not anymore), I am a hardcore believer in independence and freedom of expression and I strongly disagree with parents or guardians restricting their kids to things only they personally believe are "appropriate" (within reason, of course - even I wouldn't let a 7-year-old kid watch something like Saw), so the very idea of them trying to control me over something I saw as irrelevant irked me. *sorry for the rant, I have legitimate control issues*

On the other hand, my parents never bothered to monitor my music or my social life. In fact, they never even gave me a curfew and encouraged me to get out of the house and do something.

Nowadays, however, they don't really care what I do as long as I'm safe. I still live at home, but they don't hold absolute authority over me anymore. I usually just tell them when I'm going out and that's the end of that.
