An Mhaigh Fundraiser...
hei everyone!!
As some of anda may be aware, back here in The Moy I’m a member of the local GAA club, called An Mhaigh Tir na N’Óg. This is the club which I grew up playing football for from the age of six to, well, let’s just say older than six (I had to stop playing a few years lalu when I left and joined the Celtic Thunder circus!!), and so it has played a very important role in my life and is very close to my heart.
Anyway, GAA Kelab in Ireland are amateur organizations who rely on donations and fundraising from their members to keep paying for all the costs necessary to keep the numerous football teams (from under 8 girls and boys to the senior ladies’ and mens’ teams) competing in all the different competitions during the year.
This year’s main fundraising idea is a “Duckfast Derby”, which basically involves releasing blue plastic ducks along the River Blackwater here in The Moy, with various prizes for the first few past the finish line! I have been contacted from a few of the “Ryan Angels” who have kindly decided that they would like to organize a way via the Ryan’s Bidadari Facebook page to make a donation and therefore buy as many ducks as for the race as possible!! Not only will donations help the club funds, but the club is also donating some of the proceeds to a very worthy cause, The Marie Curie Cancer Care Northern Ireland Charity.
Well, I couldn’t let this kind act go without contributing something myself, so I’ve decided that I will make a draw of all the people who contribute via the Ryan’s Bidadari Facebook page (you can donate as little as $5) once all the names have been collected after the 30th July 2010. I will draw two names – one will receive a personalized signed photograph of myself, and the other will receive, from me, a pair of tickets to a Celtic Thunder tunjuk of your choice this Fall outside of New York City. Not a bad prize!!!
