Whenever I watch any form of mystery I try to solve the mystery before the detective. In American fiction that's almost too easy. In films it's often easier. Holmes is different. There is no obvious answer and if he were not revealing through Watson his thoughts we would have no bridge to his ultimate solution. So I can't think like the detective but only like the author, and I still fail.
