~Tip number one
When I make an rp, I usually make it long atau medium so that it doesn’t look like a random/boring/quick idea, and to get rpers (along with other reasons), but sadly that comes with a problem.
A lot of times, if I make an rp (or other people I know do) It’ll say something like
“*SHRUBBERY HUNTER*”
“Your character hears a scream from a marshmellow. They ask the marshmellow what is wrong, and he says “MY SHRUBBERY IS GONE!” Do anda help him find the shrubbery?”
So what one would expect is a
“No”
“Yes”
“Pie”
“TALKING MARSHMELLOW”
“NII!”
atau SOMETHING that has to do with what just happened.
But instead, some people go “Character: *walking in the woods*” atau “Character: What’s wrong?” Why do they do this? Because they don’t read the whole thing. A lot of the time they say “I only read the important stuff” atau “I just read the title” atau “I wasn’t paying attention”. This messes up the rp, and makes it very confusing.
PLEASE PEOPLE! PLEAAAAAAAAASE read the whole thing. Sometimes I’ll be rping fifteen komen-komen into an rp and STILL be trying to tell them “THAT’S NOT WHAT IS GOING ON! WE’RE IN A FOREST NOT AN EGGSHELL!!”
~Tip number two
IMAGINATION!
Now in my opinion it’s the responsibility of the person who MAKES the rp to come up with most of the action scenes and dialog detail, but with both that person and the person they are rping with, anda should ALWAYS use your imagination in an rp.
Examples of what NOT to use
1. *attacks* Attacks? Attacks how? There could be an enemy that is water proof, and anda have ice, so if anda just go *attacks* it doesn’t accomplish anything. Also it makes it hard for the person to reply with something to counter atau continue with that attack. If that just kept going it would end like
*attacks*
*attacks back*
*attacks back harder*
*attacks and wins*
Which leads to gary-stu rping.
2. *…* Now someone else mentioned the infamous triple-dot-threat, but I’ll just refresh. DO NOT DO THIS! Unless it is COMPLETELY impossible for anda to make a move, like being knocked out atau something, DO NOT USE THIS.
Example
Character1: We should eat pie.
Character2: …
There are three things this can imply (and maybe more)
1. ) Your character dislikes pie.
2. )You’re not paying attention to the rp.
3. )You’re being lazy.
Unless you’re doing number one, anda don’t really have a good reason to do that. “…” Leads to REALLY boring rps, and then people don’t like rping with you.
4. BE DETAILED!
Being detailed makes things REALLY fun for both people. Now that doesn’t mean *shoots your character in the head, then kicks them, then eats pie, then flies off* That is gary-stu rp. What I mean is to do stuff like *Takes out gun and tries to shoot at your character* then wait… then when it’s your turn *kicks your character on the side of their leg* then wait your turn *eats pie* wait *tries to fly off*. NOTICE “TRY”. Try implies that anda are NOT a gary-stu. anda don’t have to say this all the time, but anda should do this when fighting atau stressed areas appear. When anda simply say “*Shoots then kicks then eats pie and flies off*” it implies that anda can do whatever anda want, and we don’t want that.
~Tip number three
USE WEAK CHARACTERS OFTEN
I’ve actually found that using characters that aren’t very strong, atau have no powers, to be lebih fun than powerful characters. Now this doesn’t mean BORING characters, just characters that aren’t all “I AM ALLPOWERFUL FOOL!”.
~Tip number three (part two)
Let your characters get whatever-ed. That includes
1. Controlled
2. Hurt
3. Slapped
4. Hugged
5. Flattered
6. Tackled
7. Shot
8. SHRUBBERIES FORCED DOWN THEIR THROATS!
Especially with rps that involve hypnosis, controlling, atau flirting, rps get REALLY fun. And anda CAN have your character NOT do these things if it goes against their powers, atau if it annoys anda to do it too much, but it IS fun, and it makes rps really funny a lot of the time.
Hope these helped.
