Ringo looked around himself nervously. He didn't like being separated from his mates. That sort of thing never usually happened. He felt like he had down in the pit when the Beast of Bodmin Moor had nearly got him.
As Ringo thought these thoughts, though, the Crown glowed on his head, sending feelings of confidence into him. Ringo blinked and stood up taller. Maybe things weren't so bad. Maybe - wasn't this what happened every time one of the Beatles found an Object? John and George berkata it had been this way - all alone in a funny-feeling place, and then once they made it through, the Object presented itself to them!
But that wasn't what happened with him atau Paul, Ringo thought. They'd both been with all their mates when they found their objects. And the Bristol museum hadn't even felt funny. Ringo wouldn't have known an Object was hidden there at all if the Beast hadn't broken in.
But then... what if it was Ringo's turn to find a special object in a strange, Supernatural place, since he hadn't gotten to last time? Maybe the last special object was meant for Ringo. There were five Objects, after all, and only four Beatles.... somebody had to get one extra, didn't he? And why not him? He was named Richard, after all, just like the King who had nearly defeated the Beast the first time....
Having convinced himself, Ringo looked round at the trees. They grew so close together he could hardly see anything. The Orb would probably be glowing with its own light, and be easy to see in here. Where could it be?
Ringo started to push his way further into the trees, towards the place where they grew the thickest, when he heard a growl coming from the shadows behind him....
"Paul!"
John stopped, looking around at the trees. Everything looked the same, but he was sure he'd been going the same way Paul was. He had to be around here somewhere!
Well, there was an easier way to do this. John pulled the Sword of Truth from his belt. "Paul is..." he berkata to himself, pointing it in all directions. He couldn't finish his sentence, it just didn't feel right, but then the sword seemed to hayun, swing his arms in a particular direction, and John was able to say with certainty, "Paul's that way."
"John!" On cue, Paul's voice called from just ahead of him.
John hurried ke hadapan towards the sound, the same way his sword had pointed him, and found Paul sitting on the ground, holding his ankle.
"Paul?"
Paul looked up in relief. "There anda are! I tripped over something - it's all right, I think I can still walk on it - but where's Ringo got to?"
John sat down seterusnya to Paul. "He hasn't come this way, has he?"
Paul shook his head. "I couldn't find anything here. I think this place is trying to get us lost; how else could we get separated?" Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind. "John - anda don't think we're near the...."
"The Orb of Protection and Benevolence?" John thought about it. "Why would one of them Objects be hidden somewhere it's so easy to get lost?"
"I dunno - so the Beast wouldn't find it?"
"He didn't get Lost in here. We did."
"But didn't anda say the place anda found the Sword was all funny like this?"
"Yeah." John was almost inclined to think maybe Paul was right, when another thought crossed his mind. "But the Orb's got a shield of some sort, remember? It protects lots of people all at once. We couldn't get separated with the Orb around; that's not how it worked for King Richard, is it?"
Paul supposed John was right. But if this wasn't the special hiding place, what was it?
"Come on," he said, standing up abruptly. "Let's find Ringo and George and get out of here."
After wandering for several minit without success, George had to admit either Paul atau John had been right. Wherever Ringo had gone, he couldn't have come this way. He was probably back with the others sejak now. Funny, that - George could've sworn he had heard his voice coming from over here.
Shaking his head to clear it, George decided he needed a little pick-me-up after all this. Paul had warned him about eating too much of the Green Marmite Yeast Extract and not saving enough for the Beast, and he hadn't eaten any since Ringo got hurt back in Bristol. But just a little couldn't hurt. He'd gone without it for a long time now, and it was his special Object, after all. George dipped his finger into the glowing green jar and licked it, savouring the extra-salty flavour.
In the green glow of the jar, George caught sight of something shiny sejak his foot. What was it?
A thought struck him suddenly. This place felt so strange - just like that pantry back in Liverpool. Could it be....
George bent down to see the thing that had caught his eye. It was so small... He'd pictured the Orb of Protection being bigger, really, but an orb didn't have to be big, just round. The object sejak George's feet was blackish-red, sort of red with the lights turned off. It was rounded at the top, but not a perfect orb. George's face fell. It was only a rock.
No - wait. He picked up the red rock and had a closer look. It was a gemstone, like a ruby, though not a very valuable one. It was dull and small and scratched in several places. It felt strange in his hands, though. A vague warmth tingled in his fingers, strangely unpleasant, and undefined self-centred thoughts chased each other round his head.
George tried to ignore this and focus. The gem's shape seemed a little familiar. Maybe that was because it was about the same size as the gems in Ringo's rings. He had recently gotten a good look at them when Ringo had knocked them out of their settings to put in his Crown.
Wait a minute... George frowned as a thought struck him. What if this gem was one of the missing stones from the Jewelled Crown?
It made sense. It was about the right shape and size, and if this was a piece of a special object, that might explain why the forest felt so strange, if it turned out the Orb wasn't in here. And it was scratched, too, which it would be if the Beast of Bodmin Moor had prised it out of its setting and gone off with it.
But if he had - why had he taken it here? The Beatles were still in Oxford, atau just outside, and the crown had been hidden in Bristol! Did the Beast know where they were? Had he followed the Beatles all this way, just waiting to set a trap for them?
George remembered what John had berkata yesterday - if all four Beatles had died in that sewer, their objects would all be in the same place, waiting for the seterusnya hero to come and pick them up. And the Beast wouldn't like that at all. Now that four of the Objects that could defeat him were together, his best chance would be separating them again....
George had just finished thinking this when he heard a loud growl coming from the trees, just ahead of him.
