Why can't they fixed the elevator?

Three of them are scientists and Howard is an engineer (if I spell that word right). Can't they fix it?

On one episode anda see lenord put like a bottle of bir in there then anda here a bunch if clinks like had put eery single bottle of bir he had ever drank in there and he had to prye it open with a gagak bar that just so happened to be there

Well I guess It is not possible because when the elevator explode the kabin got damaged. Although they may have the technical knowhow they could not repair the elevator because they do not have the materials.
But I think the elevator will never be repaired because it is one of the most important running gags of the series!
