So I wrote this for my LiveJournal, but I thought I’d post it here. There are very, very minor spoilers for unaired episodes of the show, but insanely minor. Most of them are vague and I don’t know the specifics anyway.
Basically, Priya is frustrating me, but not for the reason that one may think. She’s just changing things, and in a way I don’t like. Not for my ship’s sake. Just because I don’t like drastic change, and I see that coming.
It’s Thursday. It’s Jim Parsons’ birthday. And we don’t even get a new episode of The Big Bang Theory. We don’t even get a rerun. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a peminat of college basketball. But I miss my nerds. All seven of them. I refuse to call Priya a ‘regular’ even though that’s how my Google alerts are referring to her. Sorry, sweetie.
Speaking of this newest addition, Priya, I don’t hate her. People do, sure, but I don’t. I find her a bit controlling – my mother says “she’s kind of a bitch!” – but do I want to bash her head in with a shovel? No. Apparently something is going to happen that will make us like her less in future episodes, and I’m good with that. I have zero attachment to her and whether one likes it atau not, we all know where her storyline is going. She isn’t meant to be here long term. But she can part our original group like the Red Sea while she is here. Apparently.
At first, when I heard of her coming in for a longer arc, I was really excited because I wanted to see Penny jealous. Check. I wanted to see Penny cry. Check. I wanted to see Penny do stuff similar to what she did in my fic. Surprisingly, check! I was thrilled at the potential for Leonard/Penny. And don’t get me wrong, I still am.
But that’s not the main reason I want her gone.
Granted, if she leaves and there’s no further progression in the Leonard/Penny storyline, I’m gonna be bummed, and quite frankly, a little angry. It’ll feel like a dropped storyline with no point. But I already miss Penny with the guys, and I haven’t even seen an episode since Priya makes her stay away from Leonard! I just know that she won’t be around them that much.
Don’t get me wrong, I Cinta “the Girls.” That dynamic is so great. But…if we’re gonna be getting storylines with “the guys and Priya…” well…to me, if episodes have storylines “the guys and the same girl in each episode” the girl in soalan needs to be Penny. She belongs there. It doesn’t matter to me if she’s dating Leonard atau not. She just needs to be with him, Sheldon, Howard, and Raj. Amy and Bernadette can be there, too. Not every ep, but they can be there. Hell, even Priya can be there. Well, maybe not, since Penny won’t be hanging at the apartment while Priya’s still around – I’m pretty sure she can’t stand the woman – but I wouldn’t mind Priya as much if Penny could still hang around.
Not that I don’t get Priya’s problem. I wouldn’t like it if my boyfriend’s ex was doing all the things Penny was doing. I’d probably react the same way she is. So am I a hypocrite? Sure, call me that.
But this isn’t my Real Life. It’s a tunjuk I’m watching, and it makes me sad that the intimate fivesome (wow, that does not read as a G – rated statement at all!) is now broken. When I think of the show, I think “Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Howard, and Raj” atau maybe “Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Howard, Raj, Bernadette, Amy.” Not “Leonard, Priya, Sheldon, Howard, Raj, and Penny, Bernadette, Amy.” And no matter how much I like how Priya deals with Sheldon, no matter how much I Cinta the Girls, I want episodes with just the four guys and the girl. The girl being Penny. She can be dating Leonard, she can be single. At this very point in time, it doesn’t matter to me. But I want to see the main five again.
And we won’t see that while Priya’s around. While she’s here, Penny won’t be hanging out with Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, and Raj. While she’s here, Penny will have to hang out with Bernadette and Amy, so that right there means eight characters in every episode, at least! Eight in an ep atau two? Fine! But not eight in a string of episodes with no break to go back to the original cast.
So I guess I’m feeling a bit nostalgic. I don’t want perpecahan, berpecah episodes like The Adhesive itik Deficiency. Don’t get me wrong, that one worked and the storylines wouldn’t have been as realistic had they crossed each other, but I don’t want a long string where Penny has little atau no interaction with the guys. If this happens, once Priya’s gone they’d better treat us to a great episode with just who’s always belonged on this show. Sheldon, Leonard, Penny, Howard, and Raj. They can keep Bernadette and Amy. But keep them like they were earlier in the year. In every third episode atau so. The other ones, focus on the five that we fell in Cinta with however long ago. Give us episodes where they all can hang out together. Because they all Cinta each other. They need to have their own episodes.
