MalloMar Wait...Kiara's a cub in The Lion Guard?! I wasn't aware of that. I agree with you. It seems the show will only open more plot holes. And man, it bothers me when people insist that Kopa officially exists. Sorry, there IS no canon Kopa. However, I'll admit I'm happy Kiara will appear at all in the show. I like her.

boytoy_84 I think the producers should think to make Kiara older like an adult rather than a cub since Kion was never in TLK 2. The Lion Guard sounds cheesy the way the animation looks. I saw what the hyenas look and they don't look the same as the original film. to me they look kinda funky looking. known this cartoon spinoff is supposed to be for kiddies. I may stick with TLK and TLK 2 if this spinoff is not interested for me. I think The Lion King and The Lion King 2 are fine enough without anymore sequels because now with The Lion Guard may f**k up the TLK storyline. I'm not too keen with this spinoff and how the creators have Kiara back as a cub and now a brother who's her age when she was actually a single cub to Simba and Nala. I wonder why the creators just didn't make a cartoon series about Kiara and Kovu as cubs. A series like that would make more sense.

glelsey I'm fine with Kion's age but not so much Kiara's. If Kiara was much older, Kion could've been born during the events of the sequel, and then the idea of hyenas returning wouldn't be so weird (a new generation could've moved in long after the events of the original movie) and the idea of Simba being okay with one of his kids running around without a babysitter would make sense too, seeing as he's had time to learn to trust his children. I thought it was most likely Kion (so I used that as a keyword) but if it is, he looks a bit younger here. Maybe this scene is a flashback, or maybe the storyline starts earlier on Kion's life. Giving Kiara a same-age sibling sounds like bad fanfiction (don't get me started on that sadistic Kopa stuff people make up and try to pass off as canon) whereas there are logical ways to go about it. They aren't great qualities of the movie, but they aren't plotholes. The return of hyenas in The Lion Guard - now that's a plothole! As you said, their absence is actually mentioned in the sequel. Maybe they can work around it? For example, maybe the hyenas in The Lion Guard leave the Pridelands before the line in Simba's Pride gets spoken, but I thought the idea was that the hyenas left pretty much immediately after Scar died. Totally agree about Simba's over-protectiveness of Kiara but not Kion. Obviously in the sequel, it's shown that he worries so much about Kiara's safety because of everything he went through as a cub and he does not trust the outlanders due to their connection with Scar. So yeah - it's just completely weird for him to be so strict with one of his kids and care-free with the other. Personally, I'm still interested in checking out this series. That said, I'm kinda glad that I'm already aware of the inconsistencies it may contain! I'd rather know beforehand than be disappointed when it airs. lionkingartist Yes, I have seen that image of what looks like a young Kiara and as mentioned by pretty much everyone in this thread that it just does not make any sense! I mean the reason why Kiara was so willing to be friends with Kovu right off the bat is because she was alone an ONLY child with no one to play with except maybe Timon and Pumbaa. With that being said IF she had a sibling this whole time it will completely make TLK2 Meaningless and unrecognizable. Boy do I hope they have a pretty good excuse for all the inconsistencies. I have been pretty much against this idea from the beginning when I heard it was going to air on Disney Jr. This just gives me another reason for my suspicions. I will nonetheless still give the show a benefit of the doubt but unfortunately I have very low expectations for this show.

caseyanderson36 Well, I have a theory, what happens if the "Fountain of Youth" is real, but the people who thought the fountain was near or around florida, could have got it wrong and really it was in the pridelands, in kenya(in africa) and yes that is where this supposedly takes place. and kiara and kovu (who were married by rafiki(the baboon), told once you drink from the fountain you would go back to being a cub and the marriage would be canceled and therefore simba had to reraise kiara with her new little brother kion. that might explain the sibling rivalry inside the series the lion guard. which i know the new series begins with some of the character being different voice actors than the originals except in the movie return of the roar, the voice actor who voiced mufasa was the original mufasa james earl jones while the tv series, mufasa was voiced by Gary Anthony Williams, and i got to say, voice acting has to be hard work because both mufasa sound the same. and back to my theory that means simba had to re-exile the lions again for a reason because he wanted kiara and kovu to relive their lives as cubs again to see if they probably fall in love all over again and to so kovu can be raised the right way instead of raising like scars' way. that's just a theory. but what do you think. that kiara and kovu drank from the fountain of youth and became cubs again and therefore this would be simba a middle aged lion instead.which would explain the different voice actors. in other simba would be older than he was in the lion king 2. and sometime after the lion king 2. Kovu and kiara drank out of the fountain of youth and became cubs agains. this might explain the same age in relation to kion.

tiifruti I'm going to try and come up with the most Disney solution I can think of. 1: Nuka and Vitani show up in the elephant graveyard. It is a long known fact that no hyenas live in the Pridelands anymore, and they've long since been booted out of the graveyard as well. The lion Guard does not discredit this. Janja, Jasiri... they all live in the outlands. I'm sure they are likely to sneak into the pridelands just as Zira does. Sneaking in does not mean they still live there. 2. Simba and his cubs. It is very likely that TLG takes place after Kiara meets Kovu but before her first hunt (as she is in training for it in one episode and now has a dedication to being future queen). That means they are older. Kion also showed a strong sense of responsibility when he refuses to enter the outlands in Return of the roar because his father told him not to. Kiara showed a completely lack of respect for the rules as a younger cub, hence why Simba might fret more over her than Kion. There is the fact that Kiara is the future queen and as next in line she is in more danger than the average cub... look at Simba. He went through so much as a cub. He clearly pushed his worry onto both his cubs, but only Kion listened. There is also the old issue of "boys will be boys" despite how outdated it is.. and how they tend to get away with more than girls. 3. Scenes that Kion would definitely be there. There were a total of 6 days in SP shown. -Kiara's Presentation -Kiara sneaks into the Pridelands -Kiara's first hunt/Kovu enters the pride -Kovu trains Kiara/Upendi song -Simba takes Kovu out/Attacked/Exiled/Outlanders Invade -War ends/Outlanders join Pridelands, Kiara and Kovu become "mates" -There was no reason to show Kion in the presentation scene since he was not the next heir. Kion was left in the back with one of the lionesses more than likely. -It is shown that Kiara and Kion aren't on the best terms (sibling arguing) and that they do not spend their days together at all unless a special event is happening (Kupatana, Mashindano) or a family event is taking place (the cubs learning to hunt, bringing up serious questions to the family). Kion clearly had plenty of non-lion friendships, especially between him and Bunga. His relationship with Ono, Beshte, and Fuli were deep enough that he was able to see their special traits and pick them to be apart of the guard. It is more likely that as a cub, he was playing with them. -Kion has no reason to be around for her first hunt. It is mostly a female thing. And during the fire, Kion and the guard are most likely doing damage control or trying to relocate animals and get them to safety. It is very likely that he was dealing with Janja or other enemies as well (including the outsiders... I find it interesting that Nala knew Vitani by name). At night, all we see is Simba pretty much rejecting Kovu from entering the den and Kiara talking to him. No other time to focus on others. -Again, Kiara and Kovu are gone at the crack of dawn and "training" It;s all about them. Never once is there a time that Kion absolutely needed to fit in. -Simba takes out Kovu to talk to him. Man to man, and to tell him Scar's story. Kion already knows Scar's story and the pride has accepted Kovu so far. Why bother being there, stalking them? Now, the exile should be when he's present, however, Exile is a King's duty... not a son. Many animals are there for the exile, and the guard could easily be in the crowd. Sarabi and Sarafina are assumed to be there at the beginning and just off screen, Nala's father was just "off screen" as well. Or, Kion could be off helping animals relocated and migrate after much of the grazing grounds were destroyed the way he did in the newest episode with the Antelope and Zebra. -If, say, Kion and the guard were helping a migration or chasing off Janja and were out of the pridelands, they would not really know that the lands were attacked, the pride went to war, and peace was found in 12 hours if they're gone. I can see him returning from the migration and confused that his sister is married and their enemies are living in their lands. On an unrelated note, many people are upset about Kiara's personality and her wanting to be queen. This takes place after she meets Kovu. She only told her dad she didn't want to be queen because she was in trouble and her fun time was spoiled. She sniffs the air and "hmphs" at him like a brat. She doesn't listen to her father... something she has carried over to TLG as she doesn't listen to Kion when he warns her about trusting hyenas (something Simba has more than likely also pounded into her head). However, she's clearly a daddy's girl in both series. She is also being saved in both series. Saved by Simba from Zira, Saved from the fire by Kovu, Saved by the guard during the stampede and from Janja.

boytoy_84 Clearly TLG isn't canon to the films. It's a spin-off series with a whole different story. which is fine with me. I never cared for this show anyways. I'd take Timon and Pumbaa anytime over Kion's annoying friends of his.I'd stick with 2 TLK 90's films and pretend TLG never existed.

tabby1buddy I read an article somewhere why Kion is not in lion king 2 is becuase in the original story of lion king he died. Now for some reason i cant not find it anywhere. It told the whole story of why kiara was in lion king and kion was never mentioned.

AmaiyaShinzu tabby1buddy you are right kion dies in the original lion king zira kills him so thats why he isnt in TLK2. They wanted to do something that added plot in between TLK AND TLK2 so they came up with TLG and added Kion..

Or have the false canon claimers now suddenly abandoned their precious Kopa and replaced him with the slightly more official Kion while still holding on to that illogical fanfiction fantasy? o.O Anyway, yeah, for all those reasons listed Kion would make much more sense if Kiara was an adult in his spin-off show. But personally I'm so used to Disney tv-show spin-offs not giving a crap about continuity and sensiblle blending in that those matters are the least bothering to me. What I can't deal with is the whole concept of the lion guard with its stupid magic roar. It's just so out there seeing to The Lion King's original universe where the only magic seemed to be the ability to call forth spirits in the sky by summoning them. It was grand and mystical, fit well the religion of the pridelanders and the epic, timeless feel of the movie. This magic roar right down to the magically appearing and disappearing roaring head symbol on the furcoat is just...bad fanfiction meant for very little kids rather than a timeless story for the whole family. The concept of a Lion Guard in itself isn't bad but it didn't need magic and it certainly wouldn't need a little kid as its leader, especially one that was supposed to be soooo immature just hours earlier. Also, it's called THE LION Guard, a spin-off of THE LION King. I was expecting to be introduced to a bunch of new LION characters. Instead there's a whole bunch of different species of which most are the furthest thing from a lion. It would have been nice to see Simba's cubs socializing and growing up with other lion cubs, for a change. We get so little of anything like that in any of the movies. The Lion Guard could have been awesome. They just royally fucked up the execution and targetted it too much for little little kids instead of keeping it at the movie franchise's roots of family entertainment.

Shynella So this is how I'm making since of this is at the beginning of TLK2 when Kiara meets Kovu, Kion wasn't born yet.  So TLG happened after meeting Kovu for the first time.  And as for Kion not being in TLK2 Kion, right after Kiara meets Kovu it skips over her childhood which would mean it skipped overt Kion being born.  And there are time Kion has to leave the pride lands for missions for TLG.
Yes it would make more since for Kion to have appeared in TLK2 at least once but at least the part about Kion being born after Kiara and Kovu meet the first time makes it make a little more since.
They should come out with a movie that gives reason why he wasn't there like he and the other members of TLG had to go on some kind of mission like the did with TLK 1 1/2.
And at end of it reunite them all together.
But there is one thing that I hate about the TLG series I wish they would have made it look more like TLK movies instead of the new look.
But that's my input.  Hope that makes it have more since.

bendaimmortal @ Synella, Kion couldn't have been born that much later than Kiara. As they are exactly the same size and both sound like teenagers, I think it's quite clear they mean them to be litter mates. Granted, they clearly don't care much about age designs because they gave Kovu his grown-up voice to indicate he's older than the cub version in the movie yet they didn't bother to draw him the least bit bigger or even give him any more mane...So I guess, to be fair, the size matter is questionable. But on the other hand Kovu is only a side character there who appeared in only one episode. Whereas Kion and Kiara are main characters, so I personally think it's safe to assume they meant them to be from the same litter.
