more like a routine, which he also said they were getting "quite efficient in doing" (destroying Zion), its a form of control like morpheus said "its a prison for your mind" think about it, they are farming humans as a resource, if they didnt have the matrix in place everyone would be aware and trying to break free. theres nothing won from the matrix itself. its like watching a movie that lasts your entire life. and if zion had been destroyed 6 times over, the matrix itself is on a grander scale than initially thought of. its a pretty crazy concept when you think about it. but again back to the question, nah its not a game if theres no reward in the matrix running its program without any interruptions. the architect knew that there would be an anomaly in the equation which is why he introduced it. neo is actually doing everything that hes supposed to do, albeit a seperate program from the initial design, everything is being done as planned by the architect. i could keep goin for a bit more but its late lol
