Vampire Diaries Synopsis For Season 6 Episode 16: “The Downward Spiral” 

Vampire Diaries fans! We’re of course talking about Ian Somerhalder’s (Damon) directorial debut which is coming on March 12 with Season 6, Episode 16 (“The Downward Spiral”). Given all that happened in the last episode, we can only imagine this hour of television will continue to keep us on our toes.

With Caroline (Candice Accola) flipping her humanity switch after her mom’s death, our favorite blonde vampire is going to give her friends quite the chase. You can just imagine how conflicted Stefan (Paul Wesley) is going to be having played a small part in Caroline’s, well, downward spiral. (We see what you did there, Powers That Be!)

And now that — spoiler alert! — Damon and Stefan’s mom, Lily (Annie Wersching), has made a return, the elder Salvatore brother is pressuring Kai (Chris Wood) to tell him more about the prison worlds out there. But what has us worried for Damon is that he’s going to learn some “devastating news” about his dear ol’ mom.

Oh yeah, and Bonnie (Kat Graham) is, naturally, adjusting to being back in the dimension.

After shutting off her humanity following the death of her mother, Caroline gives her friends an unexpected ultimatum. Not knowing how to handle the new Caroline, Stefan’s attempt to intervene sets off a dangerous chain of events, leaving him and Elena (Nina Dobrev) in a race against the clock. Meanwhile, after seeking answers from Kai about the prison world, Damon’s world is turned upside when he learns some devastating news about his mother Lily. Elsewhere, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) finds himself becoming increasingly intrigued by Sarah Salvatore (Tristin Mays), and Bonnie begins to struggle with the effects of being back in the real world.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
