Nope.

Kids endlessly complain that they're not going to need the techniques in high school maths, atau the skills learned sejak studying literature, atau the knowledge granted sejak geography/history. They actually just misunderstand what it's all about.

anda may not need to calculate a complicated algebra equation ever again, atau analyse a novel. Schools don't pretend that anda will. What they DO hope is that these things have taught anda a little about critical thinking skills, communication skills, Penulisan skills, analytical skills. And these things are most definitely required for the "real world".

So when people complain that school has little to do with being successful in employment, I disagree with them in two aspects:
1. School, while not teaching what is explicitly required for a course of work (this is the job of a universiti atau TAFE atau training course), teaches the skills necessary for such work.

2. The underlying assumption is that school should be ALL about employment. It shouldn't. It should also pay mind to creating lebih intelligent, well-informed citizens, which are essential in any democratised country.

This is not to say that there aren't flaws. Perhaps schools should focus lebih on critical thinking and public speaking than they already do, etc. But to say that the curriculum is "far removed" from the "real world" is untrue and unfair.

"It should also pay mind to creating lebih intelligent, well-informed citizens, which are essential in any democratised country." Exactly!

Yep that’s definitely one of the cornerstones of education, I think. It’s also one that people neglect to think about, sadly, so I’m glad anda think the same :) It’s essential we have a well-informed population, otherwise democracy is pretty much undermined. Also consequently why I think media ownership laws are important- not all media outlets should be in the same hands, because information/ knowledge is so so important and so influential. We need a populace with independent thought, lol.

School should be all about the importance of education and the intake of as much knowledge as possible. That to me, is essential as school should be teaching children to soalan everything and pursue knowledge as it creates lebih informed and inquisitive adults, although no surprise there why government atau corporations might not support that! I believe school has very much become a tool in society that teaches children nowadays to consume rather than produce etc. I agree with anda completely about media ownership. This is why I don't like political extremism as it tends to be so one-sided therefore lacking in full information which is why I try to follow a diverse range of outlets in my own country and it has proven to me that one needs to in order to get all of their information. I think too many people trust media far too much, unfortunately.

The school systems nowadays are getting mighty ridiculous. The High school drop out rate is alarmingly increasing due to all the new testing and academic requirements to get your diploma. I don't blame some people deciding to leave school because most of the stuff they teach are not relevant to the real world atau helpful at all. Instead they teach us these things that we're probably not going to have to ever use in our life again.
Like for instance, what's the point of me Membaca endless Shakespeare plays and learning about his life? How does that benefit me? Unless I decide to major in English which I'm not then there's no reason for me to know an abundant of details about him. And there's also the ridiculous math. I mean basic math I understand because we do use that in our every hari lives but freaking algebra and calculus? Like seriously? I have never berkata to myself in a grocery line what is 2x-89y? I don't know need to. Schools need to realize that most of the material their teaching are not beneficial to us. I personally think that the advanced math should be electives and they can be replaced with lebih things that are useful.

The point of content during high school is not necessarily the content itself. lebih than anything, it’s training your brain how to think critically and approach things logically. It’s not that well-educated people have lots of information just crammed in there- it’s lebih that they can think independently, they know how to learn, can communicate clearly, can conceptualise and solve problems, separate the important information from the trivial, reason analytically, etc. Learning maths and literature- trying to understand them, process them, then apply them- leaves anda with these skills for life, even if anda never use the content itself again. They really do benefit you, even if anda don’t see it that way. Learning is never pointless. Also we shouldn’t just be training teenagers with things relevant only to their future employment (which some people think of as the only goal of education). We should be trying to make well-rounded people

I never berkata learning wasn't important. I just berkata that the stuff they teach in school are sometimes not important to our daily living and working situations. They don't teach anda valuable things in school today. I think learning how to balance a check, time management skills and learning from failure are just as important as other learning studies. They expect too much of their students and deem them as failures when they don't pass a certain test. That can mess up someone's confidence greatly. I don't know I just think that there are improvements to be made within the system I understand that your saying that it's helping us with our critical thinking skills but at the same time it's limiting our logical consequence skills.
