What is the meaning of name "Renaissance era"?

Well we know that the Disney Princesses were divided into three different eras: Classics, Renaissance, and Revival. But I'm confused with "Renaissance" ones. Not about the princesses, but just the names.

The Classic Eras: The era when Walt Disney himself still alive and pioneer his company.

The Revival Eras: The new era in 2000s that marks the return of successful Disney movies.

I just have no idea with "Renaissance" name, I never heard it before in a few times ago. What's the meaning of "Renaissance" name? I am curious and please tell me what anda know
