It took him forever to muster up the courage to fight Gaston. I never understood why.

The others are very brave, I think, but honestly I've never thought that was one of the Beasts attributes.

@wavesurf: Because he was feeling sad and depressed. He had a change of heart and let Belle go without telling her how he felt. He loved her. After letting her leave, he fell into despair again. It's quite obvious when he says "it doesn't matter now, let them come." he has given up hope and wants to die. He's a human caring man on the inside at that moment in a beast's body. However eventually Beast's primal instincts kick in full rage - the demon inside shines though and he almost kills Gaston.

He's like Angel from BTVS. Unkind Adam is Liam, Good/caring Beast/Adam is Angel and Agressive/Angry Beast is Angelus. Angel was cursed by Gypsies and Adam was cursed by an Enchantress.

^Beast always had rage inside him, along with his depression which he had nursed for years. Adam just didn't know when to use "his rage" constructively. Being a man who can't control his emotions doesn't make him brave.

Honestly I think the rest of the choices are all equally brave. I just chose the Beast because it doesn't seem to be one of his primary attributes.

Yep.

He doesn't do anything brave. He saves Belle from the wolves but thats it. He is the opposite of brave in the fact that he doesn't leave his palace and sort of dooms his servants to being objects forever until Belle comes along. Even when Belle comes along all the servants have to persuade him to be nice to Belle.

He doesn't do anything that really takes all of his courage. His size is such an advantage that nothing he does is brave

Not that brave. He only saved Belle from the wolves, that's all, and he's a giant beast, so.

@WaveSurf: I was just giving you my theory when I saw your comment questioning why. I don't think he's brave.

Unlike the others, Adam/Best doesn't seem naturally brave/heroic; he fights back when he's pushed or when someone he loves is in danger, but that's pretty much it.

same as Aladdin...seems more daring than brave. As for beast, it its the bravest act to let go the love of your life for their good. It doesn't matter if you do it in the end or have the heart in beginning only to do it, it takes up your whole life to fight against your only hope. For me, other were simply physically brave, which is the first thing to come to you when you or your loved one is in danger. Being able to take a brave, righteous , emotional stand that will affect the rest of your life gives me jitters!

Being a beast he doesn't have much to be afraid of, but most of his "brave" actions are just him getting what he wants by acting forcefully not really being brave exactly. The others actually have genuine threats, and to be brave you have to be threatened and go against that threat without being scared. And he surely isn't scared, but as a rich beast nothing is really a threat to him. Gaston was a threat, but he only decides to fight when Belle is there, which is him getting what he wants by acting forcefully. He could easily beat Gaston it's just a matter of him wanting to or not, which is a form a bravery you could say, but not as much as the others. The others fight threats head on for what they stand for which I find much more brave than Beast's "I'll stand up for myself if Belle is there" motto.
