Also - YES, there will be characters who fit into multiple categories, but I'll put an ass-kicker into the category where she fits best, to avoid repeats. When the picks are made, you will NOT be able to add characters, to keep things simple, so add them NOW before the event to get your pick in the running. I'll leave this forum open for at least a month, so add, add, add!

Also - I will update this entry as new categories and ass-kickers are added.

hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
Oooh, Lilly's a good one. Are you reading Wolfbreed right now?

I love those, especially Bellatrix (can't BELIEVE I forgot her!)
hampir setahun yang lalu Asvini said…
Finished wolfbreed a few weeks ago Cinders, really enjoyed it. Especially considering I only bought it because it was the first book I'd seen in ages that didn't have a simpering woman, celebrity, topless man or twilight rip off cover. Apparently my local store has decided to dedicate it's book section entirely to celebrity biographies, twilight rip offs and soft-core porn.
hampir setahun yang lalu DarkSarcasm said…
Can't forget Ellen & Jo Harvelle... I guess they'd go under the 'supernatural' category? =P

I haven't seen any of the Resident Evil movies, but I hear Alice is quite the ass-kicker.

And helloooo, Lara Croft, anyone? =P
hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
(The Actresses idea [now up] was DarkSarcasm's. Just saying, so she gets credit for it.)

I also added an "Action/Adventure" category for Indiana Jones types of badass women. Like the "Adventure Land" in Disney World. Also can include female cowboys, swashbucklers, and pirates.

Oh if actresses is up i have to pick helena bonham carter (last one i promise ;D )
She has been the red queen, marla queen, bellatrix, the corpse bride and Morgan Le Fey!(also she played a monkey in Planet Of The Apes if that helps .Unfortunately she failed the compulsary monkey school :D At least that makes her interesting)

Frizzhead, you can add as many as you want. And of COURSE Carter goes up.
hampir setahun yang lalu DarkSarcasm said…
More work for Carly... I mean, more actresses: Milla Jovovich (Ultraviolet, Resident Evil) & Ali Larter (Heroes, RE). ;)
hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
Actresses must have played two or more badass roles. That's the rule. It may lead to a lot of adds, but, eh, I don't mind.

Great idea, Cinders!

Supernatural/Fantasy Ass-Kickers:
Jo and Ellen Harvelle...do they qualify as supernatural? I mean they're from that genre but they don't have superpowers.

Sci-Fi Ass-Kickers:
Carolyn Fry [Pitch Black] She's rather obscure but rather badass too...in a very human way.

Animated Ass-Kickers:
San and Lady Eboshi from Princess Mononoke
Chihiro/Sen from Spirited Away

Villanous Ass-Kickers:
Ruby [Supernatural]
Mystique
Poison Ivy

And how about some new categories?

Young Ass-Kickers?
Annie
Matilda
Sara Crewe [A Little Princess]

and Mythological Ass-Kickers?
Morgan le Fey
Athena
Artemis
Hecate
Morrigan
Spider Woman
Lilith
Circe
Medea
Aoifa
Scáthach

Historical Ass-Kickers?
Joan of Arc
Elizabeth I
Helen Keller
Amelia Earhart

That's all I can think of for now!

"Supernatural/Fantasy Ass-Kickers:
Jo and Ellen Harvelle...do they qualify as supernatural? I mean they're from that genre but they don't have superpowers."

Here's the deal with Ellen and Jo. I had Ellen up there initially, then took her off because I was thinking the same thing. I was wondering, "Are these kickass women in a supernatural world, or are these kickass women with supernatural POWERS?" When DarkSarcasm suggested Ellen and Jo again, I said, "OK, we'll just say 'From a Supernatural/Fantasy world' then."

So that's the rule for that category - women with non-supernatural powers can fit in there so long as they're from the WORLD, if they don't have a better category to fit into. (I'm thinking of putting Fred Burkle in the "Scientist" category, for example).
hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
Also, I added the Mythical and Historical categories, as well as a Shakespearean category.

I like the young category too, but how young is "young"? Twelve and under? Fourteen and under?
last edited hampir setahun yang lalu
hampir setahun yang lalu Frizzhead said…
Young Characters? because if it is i nominate Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice
hampir setahun yang lalu Frizzhead said…
Historical:

Constance Markiewicz : (in case you dont know of her) She was a Liutenant on the side of the Irish in the Easter Rising even though she was born in London. When eventually they surrendered she told the court "I did what was right and I stand by it."When she was found guilty and not put to death like her comrades "on account of her sex" she told the court "I do wish your lot had the decency to shoot me".

Thought i might as well bring a bit of Irish culture into it
hampir setahun yang lalu El_Citrus said…
Hit Girl from Kick-Ass (Appropriate title) would seem to count, I think, even just from the trailers. With the Superhero catagory, I would assume that most all Comic Book ass-kickers fall under there.

If that's the case, you could include Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), Supergirl, Hit Girl as mentioned above, Angelina Jolie's character from Wanted, uhhh...

If you're set on going through with the video game genre, then Sonya Blade, Kitana, Mileena (All from Mortal Kombat), Rayne from Bloodrayne, Lara Croft, etc.
hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
OK, so what's the verdict? Here are the "potential categories" that have been mentioned:

Video Games
Crime Solvers
Military Women
Medical Doctors
Youth (and if so, how young?)

Which of these (if any) do you think should be added? Or do you have other categories? I think the Medical one should be merged with "scientists" as that category seems rather small.
hampir setahun yang lalu nuxi said…
Veronica Mars is definitely my favorite ass-kicker of either gender. She could fit in the youth category since she was in high school the first 2 seasons.
hampir setahun yang lalu fanfly said…
How about instead of separate categories for Medical Doctors, Scientists and Crime Solvers just one called Brainy/Intelligent [or something along those lines].

And Youth...maybe 18 and under?
hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
18 feels a little old to be "youth" to me. I think youth, I think of a girl still in braces...

I WANT Veronica Mars up there. I wouldn't want to put her in the youth category, though.
hampir setahun yang lalu Dragonclaws said…
I'd suggest adding Mathilda from The Professional/Leon for the youth category. She may not have actually gotten to the point of inflicting real harm on anyone, but she is definitely a strong person and is respected in a way that young girls usually aren't. I also suggest Coraline from the book/movie with the same name.
hampir setahun yang lalu fanfly said…
Well, I was actually thinking 15 and under but then nuxi said Veronica could fit in the youth category and you have to admit that her age is an issue in the series. Meaning it's unusual for someone her age to be doing what she does. Anyway, I'm not totally sold on either cut off age.
hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
By that argument (18 and under), Buffy and Willow could also be in the youth category, as they're both sixteen at the start of BtVS. So could, potentially, Hit-Girl and Hermione. Not that I'd change them right now, as their respective categories already suit them better than the youth one, I think. But still.
hampir setahun yang lalu Frizzhead said…
how about sue sylvester from glee in villains

I think you have all the cool ones there that I can think of, great list. One suggestion, for actresses who tend to play ass-kickers, Summer Glau. She's played River Tam in Firefly and serentiy, Cameron Phillips in Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles and Bennet Halverson in Dollhouse.
hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
Added.

I've been adding a few more, either as they come to me, or as someone outside of Fanpop points them out to me. Just now, I added Lisa Simpson to the brainiacs category, Sage to the Superhero category, Summer Glau, and Margaret Thatcher and Aung San Suu Kyi to the "Historical" category.

Aung San Suu Kyi isn't "historical" so much as "geo-political", but she's a real person, doing real things, and I thought she deserved to be on that list somewhere, as I adore her to death and support her and her people's fight for independence under the despotic regime of Than Shwe.

I'm gonna start making some picks tomorrow. Are we OK with the Shakespeare list and the mythological list? I'm gonna start with those, because they seem to be more-or-less finalized.

For your convenience, the nominees for the Shakespeare category are:

Shakespearean Ass-Kickers
Beatrice (Much Ado About Nothing)
Cordelia (King Lear)
Emilia (Othello)
Rosalind (As You Like It)
Viola (Twelfth Night)

The nominees for the mythological category are:

Mythological Ass-Kickers
Morgan le Fey
Athena
Artemis
Hecate
Morrigan
Spider Woman
Lilith
Circe
Medea
Aoifa
Scáthach
Emer
Aife

I'll wait to make the questions until one or two people tells me it's good to go.

Kay I'm gonna post the picks tomorrow, then, if no one has anything to add.

But first, I must sleep, and then volunteer, and THEN fanpop. Priorities, yo.
hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
OK here's something for you to decide.

(In)famous female pirate link. I added her to "Action/Adventure" to flesh out the category, but because she actually existed, she's probably better suited in the renamed "Real Life" category (previously the "historical" category, changed to include real ass-kickers from past and present).

Where do you think Anne should go? And who else would you put in the Action/Adventure category?
hampir setahun yang lalu Asvini said…
I suppose Anne Bonny should go with the other historical women, but action/adventure is looking pretty slim, isn't it? Most of what I watch in the action genre has a sci-fi/fantasy element, and all the ones I can think of that don't fit in other categories like special agent. Would Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill fit?
hampir setahun yang lalu Cinders said…
I don't think so... When I made the category I was thinking, like, traditional adventure genre, like Treasure Island or Tarzan (but I neither of those have strong female characters - well, some incarnations of Jane, maybe, but I don't quite like Jane).

Then I started thinking about the rides in Disney's "Adventure Land" and remembered Marion (from Indiana Jones). I actually really like Marion, so it made me happy I remembered.

Still, thanks for mentioning the Bride, I forgot to put her up there! Then again, maybe she does fit in adventure, as I can't think where else to put her... I'll stick her there, for now, unless I think of a better category.

EDIT: OK, tell you what - your assignment over the next few days is to think of brainiacs and adventurers to add to the list, as both categories only have four people. Also, I'm not going to add a "Video Game" category, just distribute novel VG heroines accordingly. That way, I can add Farah (from Prince of Persia) to the Adventure category.

EDIT (again): Also, should Scully remain under "Secret/Special Agents" or should I switch her to the "Brainiacs" category, on account of her being a double threat as a Federal Agent and a Medical Doctor?
