why is the storyline of fma and fmab completely different?

i watched the entire fma series, and the fma movie, and now i'm watching famb and i'm noticing lots of differences in the two different series, so, whats up with that?

just a btw, hughes was killed sejak envy in FMA,not lust. i watched FMA first, so FMAB is kinda weird to me, but thanks
