Why does Gaara have black circles around his eyes?

It can't be from lack of sleep, because he even had them when he was a baby and he still has them now, even though Shukaku has been extracted from him...

Well, Haiwan tend to have black around their eyes to shield the eyes from the sun. Maybe its just an adaption from Gaara to shield his eyes from the desert's sun.

Though, healing the black from his eyes would be hard even if he slept normally now.

Yeah, I considered that possibility, too, but Kushina and the other sebelumnya nine-tails' jinchuuriki didn't have whiskers.

That was something else i wondered too. It confused me, unless Kishimoto wrote it in as a last mintute thing. Forgetting to add marks. Perhaps it matters if the demon is dormant? Basically sealed.

Well it could be something like if they were born a Jinchuriki atau if one of their parents was one... but was Gaara's mother atau father the Jinchuriki? The mother part sounds right to me for some odd reason.
