Sleepy Hollow Adds Nikki Reed as Series Regular Betsy Ross in Season 3 

Nikki Reed, best known for portraying Rosalie Hale in the big-screen vampire saga, has been cast in the series regular role of Betsy Ross in

Seriously! I don’t understand why the show has such an issue with the concept of focusing on Abbie and Ichabod. That’s who I’m here for. With a side of JENNY, if anyone. If they’re bringing in BRoss to eat up screen time like Katrina last season, I’m really not here for it.

Not only that but they’re putting it up against Scandal this fall. I think FOX just doesn’t care anymore.

Ugh. No. This is not Supernatural, and even focusing on the two leads of that show so often kept it from being as good as it could have. SPN and SH both are best when they have other characters who also have stories, I do NOT want to focus solely on Ichabod and Abbie and their supernatural case of the week. The show is named after an ENTIRE TOWN. There needs to be more characters and especially recurring ones that can pop up and disappear to expand the world a bit. It feels like the apocalypse is happening in a bubble that only affects four people and that’s not good.

Betsy is a dead person from the past. That is not world building for the present. She servers no purpose for the here and now.

What can we say? The Spanish Armada washed a lot of “Hispanics” up onto British shores……

She’s Cherokee, Italian, and Jewish. Sounds pretty American to me.

I thought race didn’t matter in casting anymore? You can’t have it both ways.

So, what hole in time is Betsy supposed to slip through?

Maybe there are going to be a lot of flashbacks. It does say her character is going to exist in the present time.

She was a much better actress than K Stewart in Twilight

Awesome, she’s a vastly underrated actress, but it’s just sad she’s joining a show that won’t last another season. Surely she can do better?

Great news! Very happy that Ian and Nikki will both be on shows that film in Atlanta. Also, Nikki will begin filming a movie in upstate New York in August and she has two movies that should release this year…

If it was hanging by a thread last season, Fox just cut the rope!

The problem with Katrina was not Katrina herself, but the way the character was horribly written.

IMHO the actress’s portrayal was not up to par, also. It was not all the writer’s fault. Others in the cast had crappy script, but handled it just fine.

It’s official. The stupid is deeply embedded in this show. It didn’t leave with Goffman.

Isn’t Abbie already the Mrs. Smith to Ichabod’s Mr. Smith. I’m not even talking romantically but as Team Witness, they’re already a butt kicking team.

Considering in that movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith spent a lot of time trying to kill each other? Abby and Ichabod might not want that as their relationship model.

This is horrible. They should just cancel the show now. This is literally the most awful thing the writers could do. Its like they want the show to flop and die a pitiful death.

This show already has an amazing lead actress and a character team dynamic that the writers can’t seem to get a firm grasp on properly managing. Now they’re going to bring in a new character to try it again? And, Nikki Reed is the best they could come up with to do this with? Seriously???

What a beautiful Betsy Ross and for sure, she looks nothing like the Betsy Ross in the history books. I cannot wait for the return of “Sleepy Hollow”.

Never heard of her until she married Ian Somerhalder. Watched/read a couple of interviews & trailers. Hmmm… If she’s supposed to be annoying and chasing Ichabod, then fine. Should work, I guess. but she seems awfully young and doesn’t have the strongest chops. She doesn’t seem like a strong actor. Out of all the great actors they could have cast with Angelina Jolie like qualities, they chose this girl?? I don’t get it…

As long as they keep the interactions between the witnesses intact I could care less about Betsy Ross. Just keep her out of their witnessing.

I’ve seen her outside of Twilight and she’s a pretty good actress. I just hope the writers don’t do her as much disservice as they did the character of Katrina and her actress – I felt very bad for Katia Winter. She wasn’t well written like Abbie and Jenny. The most I can say right now is I won’t judge something I haven’t seen – my only prayer is that they focus on the relationship of the witnesses. The chemistry between Mison and Beharie is what made Sleepy Hollow such a runaway hit. That should be recaptured again, being Season 3 almost didn’t happen. Fan and critic grievances were the same. And Jenny shouldn’t be forgotten either. I won’t say Sleepy Hollow is dead. I love the show and this can work if done correctly.

I’ve never seen any of Nikki Reed’s work, so I can’t comment on her acting ability, but outside of that, I agree with every other word of this post :). Well said.

This is probably a way to push Nicole (Abbie) and Lyndie (Jenny) into the background, right? Fine, bring that reporter guy back for Abbie to get with then since it seems like she’ll have nothing to do.

This! The show is already hanging on a thread with fans. Instead of getting back to what makes the show work, they’re digging in and trying to “recreate” it with the same old agenda that didn’t work. RIP Sleepy Hollow.

OK. where is Abbie’s love interest. So far Ichabod had one with with another pending and Jenny had Hawley. So, what about Abbie…….

Huh…? It’s canon that Ichabod couldnt stand the woman in his time, and even if she ended up in the present like about 10 other characters at this point, she’d be in as much as a timewarp as Ichabod. Abbie doesnt need any other people to support financially and take care of. None of this makes a lick of sense. And what about what Abbie deserves?

Her, Bonnie from TVD, and Iris from The Flash could start a club at this point. How unbelievably ridiculous.

I know, I hope this time around they find a job for Ichy and Betsy. It is ridiculous how one woman would be able to support 2 grown people, fulltime. IRL, no way would anyone put up with that. Unbelievable…..

Here’s the thing: I watch shows for continuity and often drop them after they introduce new elements or characters that make no sense nor add to the overall arc.

In Betsy Ross we have someone directly tied to the spy ring spoken off in relation to George Washington. However, the question can be asked: why cast her in particular? Why of all the people in Crane’s background that we’ve already seen onscreen should she be focused on as “a kickass Mrs. Smith to Ichabod Crane’s Mr. Smith”? Why series regular as opposed to – like all others in Crane’s background – recurring characters?

There in lies the problem: TPTB clearly want to up the chick sexy factor (although plenty of that was already onscreen with Jenny and Abbie) and appeal to a certain demographic, perhaps the same demographic they hoped Katia would appeal to.

Now, it could be that they also plan to cast other persons who add to the continuity from S1 and S2 that we’ve already seen, (instead of referenced) like say: Corbin Sr, Joey Corbin, Grace, Macey, Sheriff Reyes for crying out loud, or even my personal fave Reverend Knapp. Plenty of potential there for stories, cast interaction and in the case of the colonials the opportunity to show the secret war. We’ll have to wait and see.

That said, I don’t look forward to the Betsy Ross version of the spy ring, even if there’s no sniff of romance. For me the problem comes down to continuity – I simply don’t care for this storyline when there are outstanding loose threads still dangling from S1 that must be fixed for those show to become epic instead of just pretty good. Also I care about the people I’ve mentioned above and others like Seamus, Big Ash, because they add to the story, to SH’s overarcing mythos and they are already part of our consciousness. Betsy Ross was just a throwaway joke to underline Crane’s appeal to the sewer of the flag. In no way should she be made more important than the others who fans have come to know and love.

Funny you say SH and twilight years. Cuz this casting announcement just killed the show.

For such a minor addition to “kill the show”? It was already there.

So basically they haven’t learned from their season 2 mistakes and will continue sucking in season 3 and irnoing Abbie and Jennie.

I support the Ichabbie ship if it happens organically but don’t need it if it doesn’t because romance should never be central on a supernatural show like this. However, so many people are deliberately stating they don’t support the ship blah blah. Who cares? If the quality can revert to season one glory and we have Abbie and Ichabod TOGETHER leading this thing the way it should be, I’m all for whatever happens. You can’t expect people to NOT ship two attractive leads; it’s just what happens. The powers that be running these shows usually feed off of this, not try to bring in another attractive woman to detract from the great one they already have. YES, the show needs to bring in more viewers and I think Nikki Reed’s bit of star power from Twilight and the TVD fandom via her husband will bring in younger viewers who are heavy on social interaction, just what this show needs. However, at a time when the SH fandom is still recovering from the travesty that was season two, it is not a time to bring in any new romantic partner for Ichabod. If the fandom is divided over romance, leave it out and let the chemistry that is Ichabbie, however each person interprets it, fuel the show. Whether that be as kick butt partners or hanging on the “will they, won’t they” vibe that’s ever-present, there’s something for everyone without bringing in a new chick under romantic terms. If Betsy Ross is our S3 big bad? Well, that might be a win win for the show. Just let Abbie and Ichabod keep doing their thing together.
