\'Penny Dreadful\' season 2 episode 1 spoilers: More witches and introduction of human antagonists
The second season of "Penny Dreadful" is set to air on Sunday, May 3. New information from the promotional featurettes and the "Penny Dreadful" Twitter account are revealing more of what\'s to come.
The promotional videos feature actress Eva Green (Vanessa Ives in the series) discussing some of the main themes and plot threads that season 2 will follow.
In the video, she explains, "The devil is still haunting her. He\'s sent his servants and his servants are witches. And they\'re actually more terrifying than the devil himself."
It has been confirmed via promotional videos and on IGN that Madame Kali, played by Helen McCrory, will return as one of the main antagonists in the show. Along with her is her powerful daughter, Hecate, played by Sarah Greene.
Witches, vampires, and demons aren\'t the only villains that Vanessa and company will have to deal with. The "Penny Dreadful" Twitter account revealed a photo of a carriage labeled "London Metropolitan Police." The post comes with the caption, "Who could POSSIBLY be in trouble with the law in this town?" It is speculated that perhaps Ethan or Malcom Murray will run into trouble with the local police.
It is very likely that the authorities will play a more prominent role in season 2 since they were practically non-existent in the first season. Green also explains that more human antagonists will cause trouble for her character, and it is likely that she is referring to the London Metropolitan Police.
The first season acted more like a long set-up to place the characters where they need to be. Season 2 now features Vanessa, Ethan, Malcom, and Dr. Frankenstein as the force to go against the devil and his witches, so fans can expect a more fast-paced season with more action and game changing events.
