Yes, Sword Art Online had the luck of being compared to a lot of the other shows I was watching on Netflix at the time(i.e Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase, and Kaze no Stigma).I hated all the shows I was watching the time, and I clicked on SAO expecting to hate it as well.

However, I actually ended up with a good series(for the 1st half anyway). It's one of my kegemaran series to this day.

Teen Titans. I used to hate it because of it's goofy animasi and Beast Boy himself. Several years later, I had grown to appreciate the show.

It doesn't really happen at all for tv atau Anime atau even media. Generally I try to be open minded. In fact I can't think of any example. Even for the Movie "Wonder Woman" I was initially bothered sejak the actress but I didn't hate the movie before watching it.

OUATIW, actually. I’m very picky about my Alice in Wonderland adaptations, and I quit watching after the first episode and a half - I thought they were building for a Knave/Alice/Cyrus Cinta segitiga, segi tiga which just seemed boring to me, and I thought that the only character I was feeling at that point, the Red Queen, would be underused and/or killed in the first few episodes. But I read a spoiler from 1x03 that interested me and made both my assumptions way less likely, so I came back and now it’s one of my kegemaran shows. XD

Nah, not really as far as I recall. I'm mostly indifferent to something until it appeals to me. I won't bother otherwise. That applies for any form of Media !!!!
