Sailor Moon Crystal: "Act 13 - Final Battle, Reincarnation" Review
Yes, the final showdown between the Sailor Guardians and Queen Metalia has finally begun, and I’m happy to report the fight was everything a Sailor Moon fan could ask for. There was action, suspense, drama, and romance. Best of all, there was a strong message about how love and friendship can overcome impossible odds.
Admittedly, it didn’t look like love and friendship was going to overcome diddly squat at first. This episode did a great job establishing just how powerful Metalia has become, with several shots of her roughing up the Sailor Guardians and covering the world in utter darkness. It was tough to watch, but I actually liked this bleak beginning, since it raised the stakes dramatically. How were the Guardians going to win against Metalia without the Silver Crystal and their leader to guide them?

As mentioned before, the answer was love. Or rather, the sacrifices people are willing to make for their loved ones.  It was both incredibly sweet and gut-wrenching watching the Sailor Guardians give up their lives on the off chance of helping Usagi, who was absorbed into Metalia along with Mamoru and the Silver Crystal. I teared up as I watched the girls wax poetic about Usagi’s friendship, then use their transformation pens to turn into beams of planetary light. I also got misty-eyed when Luna went to the moon to pray for Queen Serenity\'s guidance. Ryo Hirohashi did an amazing job expressing helplessness and despair as Luna watched Metalia steamroll over everyone and everything back on Earth.
Meanwhile,Sailor Moon managed to survive her impaling (thanks to Mamoru\'s pocket watch), but now had to find a way out of Queen Metalia\'s body. I jumped a bit when Metalia summoned scary ghost creatures inside herself to drag Sailor Moon further into the darkness; it was one of the creepiest things I\'ve seen in the series. It was also unnerving watching Usagi completely freak out over what was happening. With that being said, I was super proud of my girl for eventually overcoming her fears, then using the power of the Silver Crystal and the love of her friends to blast her and Mamoru to safety. It truly made me believe that love is the strongest entity in the universe.
Speaking of Mamoru (which means "to protect" in Japanese), he definitely lived up to his name this week. I liked how once the Silver Crystal restored his life energy, he wasted no time shielding Usagi from Metalia’s angry onslaught, then offered up words of love and encouragement when Sailor Moon had another panic attack. He\'s a pretty stand-up guy, that Mamoru! Plus, the scene where the Four Heavenly Emperors appeared to tell him how to defeat Metalia was nice. I was hoping we\'d get a scene where Endymion\'s generals got a chance to help their prince, and this episode delivered.

Overall, I found Act 13 to be a strong entry in the series, with plenty of action, romance, and suspense. Though I admit it I was a bit bummed it ended on a cliffhanger, I liked that the end scene involved Sailor Moon acquiring a new weapon. Hopefully this weapon will be enough to bring back her friends and save the world. With the power of love and the Silver Crystal, there\'s no way Sailor Moon can lose.
