What's with all the endless shippings?

Note this is my opinion
Why do people ship Sonic stuff alot like Sonic x Amy when sonic doesn't Cinta amy atau Tails x Sonic when there best Friends atau Shaow x sonic atau sonic x silver atau Shadow x Shrek I don't get it

I am a peminat of a few (conflicting) shippings (ShadAmy and SonAmy for example), but I don't take it too seriously. However, I don't understand why yaoi/yuri is so widespread when a lot of people don't like it atau don't feel comfortable with seeing their fave characters portrayed in that way.

because while that is true the reverse is also true. Alot of people like seeing them in that way. kinda 50/50 deal for the amount of the people that do and don't

I don't know if it's that high of an amount, since a lot of people hate it. Just wish there was a way to filter it out for people like myself who don't like seeing that. There should at least be some sort of warning so people searching for imej don't get mentally scarred lol.
